Governance As Leadership Workshops
Energizing and equipping a Board of Directors to embrace strategic governance and to operate at a generative level for the benefit of our institutions is no easy task.
But it can be done… with a little help!
This is what the UNIS Hanoi Board of Directors and their colleagues from more than 30 international schools have discovered, as they embarked together on a ground breaking journey over the last three years.
Co-authors of the seminal governance text, Governance As Leadership, Dr Richard Chait and Dr Bill Ryan have led Heads of School and their Board members through a series of workshops that has transformed effective governance for schools.
And this year, Bambi Betts joined the team for the third Governance As Leadership Workshop hosted by UNIS Hanoi.
First time participants were introduced to the concepts and practices of Governance as Leadership, while returning participants deepened their understanding and explored challenging new cases that will help them master the practices needed to use the framework successfully. Returning participants also found helpful this year’s new focus on the dual challenges of mastering the framework: the institutional practices and structures of the board, and the individual mindset, skills and norms that help board members contribute effectively to generative governing.
Both returning and first-time attendee Heads explored new, companion frameworks designed to help them lead alongside an engaged, empowered board – without ceding their authority or inviting micro-managing.
UNIS Hanoi is planning for the fourth annual Governance As Leadership Workshop to take place in September 2017.
