UNIS Competitive Aquatics Programme
At UNIS Hanoi we believe in diversity which allows our students to participate in multiple activities during the year. The UNIS Aquatics Academy provides the opportunity for students to participate at many different levels. For those students who wish to make swimming their “primary sport”, the opportunity is available. For those who choose to participate in multiple sports and activities, the aquatics programme provides that opportunity as well.
During the official UNIS Hanoi athletic team seasons, there is no charge for participation. UNIS Hanoi Swim Teams will adhere to travel policies as described in the Co-Curricular Activities Handbook.
During second season which runs approximately from the beginning of November until the end of January high school swimmers have the opportunity to try out for the UNIS Hanoi Swim Team. Up to 36 swimmers may be selected to join the HS swim team. In January, of those 36, 24 swimmers (12 males and 12 females) are selected to represent UNIS Hanoi at the APAC Championship Swim Meet.
HS Swim Team generally participates in one additional travel meet before the winter break as well as the UNIS Hanoi Invitational in early November.
Phoenix Swim Club (PSC) is a programme established to provide opportunities for swimmers interested in training during their off-season and for swimmers with commitments which preclude them from participation on their school swim team. PSC aims to provide training opportunities for athletes to reach their potential as swimmers and as upstanding individuals. PSC operates as a division of the UNIS Aquatics Academy, is supported by UNIS Hanoi and thus adheres to school policies and procedures.
Will train and compete as Phoenix Swim Club during first season which runs approximately from the beginning of September until the end of October. As well as during third season which begins after the TET holiday.
Middle School and Elementary School
Middle School and Elementary School swimmers train and compete as Phoenix Swim Club throughout the year. Phoenix Swim Club offers many different options for training so swimmers can take advantage of the many activities offered by UNIS Hanoi.
Payment and fees
During the PSC swimming periods, participation fees are assessed as in all of our Aquatics Academy programmes with registration during the After School Activities (ASA) registration period occurs.
What’s different about traveling as PSC?
During the PSC seasons for all away meets, families will be responsible for all fees related to travel. Families must make their own travel plans including air, hotel and ground transport. Individual Meet entry fees will initially be paid by UNIS Hanoi and billed to each family through the Business Office.
Additionally the families traveling will be responsible for the coaches’ expenses as well including airfare, hotel, ground transportation and per diem (as per UNIS Hanoi policy). This will be divided equally among all travelers based on a per swimmer ratio. The coach to swimmer ratio should not be greater than 1 coach per 12 swimmers. The PSC coach’s responsibility is limited to “at meet” coaching for meets with hotel stays. For homestay meets, coaches will adhere to established practices by MRISA or APAC schools and the host school.
For the spring MS Swim Team travel meet, the travel as funded by the Co-Curricular office will be split evenly among all official MS UNIS Hanoi Swim Team attendees.
