What better way to immerse yourself in local culture than an early morning run around Hồ Hoàn Kiếm Lake. On Sunday September 29, a large group of more than twenty UNIS Hanoi cross country runners – teachers, parents and students – met at 6:10 a.m. to participate in the 46th Run for Peace at Hoan Kiem lake. The UNIS Hanoi cross country students, who train every Tuesday and Thursday morning before school, were excited to test their running prowess.
After a wonderful opening ceremony, the girls' race was a very close contest with UNIS Hanoi demonstrating their strength in this field and taking all three top places (Moeka, Natalie and Gabby respectively). The boys' race was won by Iestyn with Honza coming a commendable fourth.
Prior to this event, on the weekend of 20-22 September, a team of six High School runners travelled to Kanchanaburi, near Bangkok, to compete in the International School of Bangkok Invitational with schools from Thailand, Malaysia, China, Taiwan and Singapore. Against very high-quality opposition, our runners – Moeka, Gaby, Nico, Basile, Harrison and Iestyn – all ran very strong races. In a field of more than 70 runners in the girls and boys races, Moeka and Iestyn finished in 9th place respectively, a fantastic achievement. The event was run over a true cross country course, with mud, rocks and steep hills. In addition to the race, students also teamed up with their fellow athletes from other schools in an adventure course and were joined by staff for a very wet and muddy 10km fun run.
Congratulations to all of our runners at both events! Go Phoenix!
