Travelling to space with Phạm Tuân
Posted 15/05/2019 05:10PM

The Grade 3 students had a very special surprise visitor on Friday, 3 May: Retired Lieutenant General, Phạm Tuân, the first ever Vietnamese citizen and Asian in space. Mr. Tuân flew aboard the Soyuz 37 mission as an Intercosmos Research Cosmonaut. Mr. Tuân has received numerous distinctions for his service, including the Ho Chi Minh Order. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and the rare honor of being one of the few foreigners to receive the title "Hero of the Soviet Union".

Mr. Tuân spent almost an hour with the Grade 3 students sharing his experiences as a cosmonaut. He answered a plethora of questions from the students ranging from, "How do you eat and drink in space?" to "What did the lift off feel like?" and "How long does it take to get into the space suit?". Ms. Tran Kim Dung translated for us.

This was an incredible experience for our students and we are very grateful to those who helped arrange the visit, but most especially to Mr. Pham Tuan for his time and enthusiasm.
