As the 2017-2018 school year comes to a close, I wanted to once again thank everyone for a wonderful 10 years here at UNIS Hanoi. I consider this a high point of my career and I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to serve the UNIS Hanoi community for so long. It was clearly a match between what the school wanted and needed to happen back in 2008, and what I enjoy doing.
A leader often gets credit for things that in fact were accomplished by many hard working, smart and dedicated people. This has definitely been the case throughout my time here at UNIS. So many people have stepped up over the years to make this such a wonderful school. The consistent support from parents, the ongoing work of the faculty and staff, and the effort and achievements of our students all contributed to making this such an amazing experience for me.
For everyone else who is leaving, best wishes for a successful transition. And don’t forget that you will always be considered a part of the UNIS Hanoi family.
For those returning, the school looks forward to lots of exciting changes in its 31st year starting with the arrival of our new Head of School, Ms. Jane McGee. You can read more about her in our latest edition of UNiquely UNIS. I sincerely hope that you will all welcome her the way you did for me.
As noted in another communication by Misty Shipley, our Director of Finance and Operations, Phase 3A of our campus development project will be completed. This means the ES students get a new maker-space along with some extra classrooms, and the whole school gets to use the new artificial turf field including at night under the lights, and on Saturdays and Sundays. The new Cafeteria with Multi-Use Learning Facilities on the 2nd and 3rd floors will offer an amazing environment for eating as well as space for conferences, testing, MUN and more. But of course the most noticeable change will be the disappearance of all the construction fencing and the large areas of green throughout the front of the campus.
So there are many changes to look forward to next year.
In the meantime, I would like to extend my best wishes for safe travel and the school looks forward to seeing you at the Welcome Back BBQ beginning at 1600 on Tuesday, 1 August, and on the first day of school on Wednesday, 15 August.
