Last week 12 students traveled to Beijing for three intense days of competition at the North East Asian Math Competition (NEAMC). The nine varied rounds challenged students to be creative, collaborate, create videos based on mathematical inspiration, strategize, communicate, and of course, do some very challenging maths!
On the junior team, Donghun Kim earned a bronze medal in knowledge, Phung Huu Phuc earned a bronze medal for challenge and a silver medal for knowledge, and Junha Hwang earned a gold medal for strategy.
On the senior team, Jae Min Yoo earned a bronze medal in creativity, Hyunjoon Choi earned a bronze medal in knowledge, and Joonwon Choi earned a silver medal in knowledge. Hyunsoo Jang earned four gold medals in the categories of knowledge, strategy, challenge, and collaboration.
In addition, two middle school and two high school students qualified to go on to the World Mathematics Championship finals hosted by the University of Melbourne later this summer in Melbourne, Australia. Congratulations to Phuc, Junha, Hyunjoon, and Hyunsoo.
Kevin Chung, Junho Seo, Trang Nguyen, Ji Yeon Seo, and Do Hyun Kwon all successfully and skillfully competed at NEAMC and made valuable contributes to their teams.
The coaches, David Wiggins and Neil Fairbairn, are proud of the success of their teams.
