School started this year with 722 families, representing 66 different nationalities and a record enrollment of 1121 students! Worldwide the UNIS Hanoi alumni family is much larger... starting the year with a record 6,691 alumni connected to each other and the School across the world!

Dzung Nguyen (Class of 2000) happily reports a second addition to her family, Sarah, who arrived safely on 30 August 2016 to join 3-year-old Sophia. Dzung is living in New York with her husband and two daughters.
Waleed Matin (Class of 2002) visited UNIS Hanoi with his wife Tina before attending a wedding in Thailand. Waleed attended UNIS Hanoi from Grade 9 to Grade 12 as his father worked for the World Bank and his mother worked at Hanoi International School. Waleed is excited to finally see the new campus, at the Ground Breaking Ceremony of which he gave a speech as a Student Rep. Waleed enjoyed reminiscing about his time with UNIS Hanoi MRISA Soccer team while looking through the trophies that UNIS Hanoi sports teams brought home over the years.
Mads (Class of 2012) and Oscar Werner (Class of 2016) and mother Dorte Werner (Alumni Parent) stopped by campus on the First Day of School.
Maarten (Class of 2017), Jord (Class of 2018) and Melanie Beek (Class of 2015) and parents Martien and Olivie Beek (Alumni Parents) stopped by UNIS Hanoi right before Orientation Day. Melanie just completed her first year studying Applied Physics at Technical University of Delft and Maarten will start Sports Education at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The family caught up with their former teachers Ms Bracewell and Mr Whatley (Current Faculty) and friend Maeve O'Donovan (Current Staff).
Jewel (Class of 2016) and Holiday Jackson (Alumni Parent) stopped by UNIS Hanoi during their tour around the world. Inspired by the experience of being an MC in UN Day, Jewel is pursuing journalism in California, USA. Jewel is also thinking of exploring acting in Los Angeles for a year.
Sebastian Meissner (Class of 2015) came by the School for a visit. Sebastian will be spending his summer in Hanoi teaching English and other subjects before returning to Toronto.
Veronica Lai (Class of 2013) is attending University of British Columbia (UBC). She is a member of the Thunderbird Marching Band a UBC student-run marching and pep band.
Lauren Purnell (Class of 2007) married Jono Davenport in May 2016. Lauren's best friends from UNIS, Felice Bakker (Class of 2006) and Emily Copple (Class of 2005) were Lauren's bridesmaids. After their honeymoon in Phuket, Thailand, the couple will live in Newcastle, Australia.
Nicholas Shell (Class of 2012) is studying Masters of Aquaculture at Stirling University. Nicholas had lived in Sierra Leone from May to June 2016 to work on a Darwin Initiative project project "Alternative livelihood opportunities for marine protected areas fisherwomen". The Darwin Initiative is a UK Government funding program that aims to assist countries with rich biodiversity but poor financial resources to meet their objectives. Curious? Tiffany Banner (Alumni Parent) wrote to express excitement about the new Campus Development Plan, "Sounds very exciting and the video of all the proposals look fantastic. Wishing you all the success and hoping that the construction and project go as smoothly as possible... I love the central flag courtyard in front to the new canteen to be, and the sun shading devices - will be exciting to see them for real in the future..."
Lana Iva Poljak (Class of 2015) is living in New Hampshire, US and attending Dartmouth College.
