Meanwhile at UNIS Hanoi

Our Global Alumni Notes

Lianna Bloemberg (Class of 2012) stopped by to visit. Lianna is working as a substitute teacher at Concordia International School Hanoi.

Nikki Erken (Class of 2018) was back on campus as part of the UNIS New York team of the UNIS New York-Hanoi Student Exchange Programme. During her time back, Nikki was thrilled to be able to join her former Service Learning group Swim For Life again.

Adrienne Michetti (Alumni Faculty) completed the Discovery Triathlon of the Metasprint Series in East Coast Park, Singapore. Metasprint Series' Triathlon is the biggest multi-sport event in Singapore that is designed to offer an exciting challenge convert recreational swimmers, cyclists and runners to triathletes. Adrienne shared, "I didn't believe I could learn to be a fit person. It took many, many hours, days, and months of work - mental, psychological work - to begin the healing I needed... I had to teach myself that I was worth it and, that it was possible. It was not an easy journey. And even today, after having done this, I feel like I've barely begun... But I at least feel like I'm "good enough" for me, and that I CAN learn to be better, and that's really all that matters. Self-work is the hardest work, but it's also the most important work."

Radhika Vu (Class of 2014) stopped by for APAC Girls Soccer and was reunited with Alan Hough (Alumni Faculty) who was with WAB Girls Team. Radhika will attend Colby College starting Autumn 2016.

Maria and Tom Spence (Alumni Faculty) stopped by UNIS Hanoi after 17 years and were reunited with Hai Le and Hanh Tran (Current Staff). Maria and Tom has three children, Rachel, who was born in Hanoi, Riley and Elijah. The family lives in Malaysia.

Eunice Chin (Alumni Parent) wrote in post-reunion to say: "We had a fantastic time at the Reunion last Saturday. It was a blast seeing Dr. Barder and seeing some friends from Hanoi. It brought back memories. Until we all meet again."

Cian Hamer (Class of 2014) saved a blood cancer patient's life who was in desperate need of a transplant by donating his bone marrow (stem cells) in March 2016 in London Clinic Hospital. He said: “I can’t encourage others enough to join the Anthony Nolan Register – donating is easy and you could be the only hope someone has."

Alun Cooper (Alumni Head of School) stopped by UNIS Hanoi in February 2016. He is currently Head of School at Prem Tinsulanonda International School. Alun also attended this year's Alumni Reunion in Bangkok.

Olivia Symons (Alumni Faculty), formerly Olivia Calvert stopped by UNIS Hanoi with husband Edward (Ned) Symons and had lunch with Elementary School teachers and TAs from their time in Hanoi.

Kelly Emblem (Class of 2013) stopped by UNIS Hanoi when she visitted family in Hanoi. Kelly's brother, Michael Emblem will graduate UNIS Hanoi this year.

Ceinwen Purnell McCann (Class of 2003) celebrated the birth of her daughter, baby Caitlin Reece McCann.

Jian Hao Tan (Class of 2011) started his charity foundation The Jianhao Tan Foundation. In September 2015 Jian Hao and a team of 8 embarked on a seven-day trip to distribute clothes, toys and other daily supplies such as food and milk at the Thuy An Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children. This trip is inspired by Jian Hao's Service Learning activities from his time at UNIS Hanoi. He said, "I really wanted to help them. I wanted to do more than just play with the children, I wanted to give them better lives. And now, I can. You can too." He is planning another trip in December, where he will be returning to the village with more gifts, clothes and other supplies.

Toni Eberle (Class of 2005) wrote to share that Ryan Duy Hung Ford (Class of 2005) married Esther Huyen Trang in Da Nang on January 23, 2016. The wedding party at Olalani Resort Da Nang included Toni and husband Trent Eberle, Ebba Wingardh (Class of 2005) and partner Vu Minh Tung.
