Community with No Bystanders
Because we belong to the UNIS Hanoi community, we have unique opportunities to make a positive impact on others. Our impact can be global or local, influencing what goes on in Vietnam and what happens in the school playground. This means not standing on the sidelines when action is needed, building bridges and extending our responsibility beyond our own immediate concerns and by seeing ourselves as responsible and principled individuals who are truly able to make a difference to the community as a whole.
1. Individual and Collective Responsibility
We will emphasize the links between belonging and principled action so that we all fully understand, and act upon, our role in moving the school community forward. We will shift further towards sustainable practices, education for sustainable development and student-led initiatives. Our actions will communicate and teach, at a time when there is a strong need for knowledge and learning. We will raise our practice of leadership to the next level, emphasizing the systems of mutual support and collaboration that sustain a leading organization that functions seamlessly and acts responsibly.
- Actively acknowledge, encourage and celebrate school practices that extend service to local and global citizenship through persistent action and stewardship;
- Amplify the school’s sustainable practices and embed education for sustainable development;
- Expect faculty and staff to think from a D-12 systems perspective, actively working in ways that create seamlessness and acknowledge responsibility for all learners;
- Grow leadership capacity and collaboration across the school in order to accelerate progress and extend the collective work of the school.
- Ensure there are policies, procedures, systems, structures, resources and personnel in place to promote the welfare and protection of students.
Individual and Collective Responsibility
Current and former students support the mission through action and service and through lifelong learning that explicitly develops their citizenship, stewardship and social responsibility, on local and global levels. The impact of principled action and service extends beyond individuals to the collective, and is interwoven in the narrative of the school.
A strong commitment to our mission regarding the stewardship of the global society and natural environment is reflected in all school practices. Sustainable practice is routinely considered when decisions are made. Education for sustainable development is considered a strength of the curriculum.
Faculty and staff think from a D-12 systems perspective, considering the interests of the school and everyone in it as well as the interests of their own particular area. They actively support and work towards a seamless experience of the school for students, parents, faculty and staff. A strong culture of responsibility compels faculty and staff to balance collective and individual responsibility.
Leadership is well-established at every level of the school. Collaborative leadership is a catalyst for progress. Leadership capacity is sustained and renewed to maintain momentum. Leaders model responsibility and accountability, and exemplify the qualities of the IB learner profile.
