UNIS Hanoi Library

The UNIS Hanoi Library is a comfortable place for the community to read and learn, collaborate and create. UNIS Hanoi students, faculty, staff and families are encouraged to visit the library where they may access our extensive multi-language collection of print and digital resources for their information and recreational needs.

UNIS Hanoi community members can access our library and online resources via Libguides. This is a virtual space where you can find electronic books and magazines and academic subscription databases. With this 24/7 accessible space, our community can enjoy learning with curated resource collections for special subjects and assessment tasks.

Library Curriculum

The library instructional programme focuses on the core pedagogical activities of:

  • Literacy and reading promotion;
  • Media and information literacy;
  • Inquiry-based learning;
  • Technology integration;
  • Professional development for teachers; and
  • Appreciation of literature and culture

The UNIS Hanoi librarians recognise the importance of having a systematic framework for the teaching of media and information skills, and they contribute to the enhancement of students’ skills through collaborative work with teachers.  (IFLA School Library Guidelines, 2015)

Library Hours

Monday to Friday: 07:30 - 17:00
Saturday: 09:00 - 12:00

Elementary students visit the library weekly with their classes for borrowing and lessons and are encouraged to use the space during their lunch recesses. They are encouraged to use the Library after school if accompanied by a parent or carer.

Middle & High School students are welcome in the Library before school, lunch time, after school and during leisure or study time.

The Library is closed during school holidays and occasionally has early closure due to special events.

Library Policies

The Library is used for many purposes by both individuals and classes. Therefore, the UNIS Hanoi code of conduct regarding behavior, academic honesty and acceptable use of technology will be observed by all community members.

Any member of the UNIS Hanoi community may borrow resources. The loan period is two weeks for each item. There are recommended borrowing limits for different ages but these are flexible and responsive to individual needs and interests. Students needing resources for extended periods due to class requirements may receive permission to keep the materials for longer.

  • Discovery - Grade 1: Two books
  • Grades 2 - 5: Three books
  • Middle & High School: Ten books, or as needed
  • Parents: Six books (under their personal UNIS Hanoi identification).
Overdue Notices and Lost/Damaged Materials

As responsible members of the UNIS Hanoi community, library users are expected to return borrowed materials within the loan period and in the same condition in which the materials were borrowed, so that the materials are available for other users.

In the Elementary School, students receive paper notices and/or emails directly to the parent or guardian via the Veracross entered email address; in Middle & High School overdue notices are sent via the student’s UNIS Hanoi email account. No overdue fees are charged, but lost, damaged and unreturned items will be billed at cost of the item plus shipping and processing charges.

Library Volunteers

Volunteers are welcome at the UNIS Hanoi Library. We especially need parent partners to help us with our World Language collection as we cater for a broad range of languages.

Parents and students interested in volunteering should contact the library staff.
