Tết Gifts for Red River Communities
Every year the Elementary School community comes together to collect Tet (Lunar New Year) gifts for Red River communities in need at this very special time of the year for all Vietnamese.
This year our Tet Bag After School Activity Service Group visited the Red River in advance and asked one of the community groups what sorts of items are needed by the families who live there. The students saw where they lived, visited with them and talked to them about their families.
Back at school they spoke to the ES in an assembly and asked them to bring in items for a family assigned to their class. Then the children of each class went home and collected items that best suited their class family. Once all the items were collected they were placed in labelled boxes and bags to be delivered to the Red River community group with a signed card from the class.
On the morning of Saturday January 25 a group of about 33 students and 12 adults took the trip down to the Red River to deliver the gifts. It was very heartwarming to see the smiles on the families’ faces when they spotted their labelled bags and boxes!
