Officially launched in May 2021, the UNIS Cultural Collection is truly a unique learning resource for our students and community, made possible through philanthropy.
The founding collection includes 204 Vietnamese cultural and historic artefacts from 13 of the country’s 54 ethnic groups. These artefacts are now displayed and curated in a beautiful exhibition space on campus in the Ly Thai To Learning Centre.
However, we don’t want to wait until the School can welcome students, parents and teachers back to campus to visit and explore this mini museum, so we decided that we would bring the collection to you, online!
The UNIS Cultural Collection online resource has been developed over the summer as a special and invaluable learning resource, not only for our students, but for an entire community.
We would like to invite everyone to browse through the collection which are categorised into different groups:
- Musical Instruments
- Labour Tools & Equipment
- Food Tools & Equipment
- Jewelry & Accessories
- Clothing & Accessories
- Household Accessories
- Ritual Objects
Each artefact comes with quality photo/s and a detailed fact sheet where you can deep dive into fascinating stories of the object as well as history of Vietnam.
Last year, the true value of the collection was demonstrated when these artefacts were used as a learning resource for Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 4 units of inquiry.
We hope with this additional online resource, the collection will inspire more learning through the lens of Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage, both on curriculum learning and community education.
In this world of pandemic lockdown, we believe it’s more important than ever that we can make the collection widely accessible for the benefit of students and communities beyond UNIS Hanoi.
