Since the global COVID-19 pandemic began, our Service Learning partners in Vietnam have seen a rise in homelessness, hunger and extreme poverty. In response, UNIS Hanoi created the Emergency Relief Fund to help provide food, shelter and emergency health care during this time of recognised crisis.

The Emergency Relief Fund is designed to support those most vulnerable in our host country. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, funding has been channeled through our trusted local partners and reached 1559 lives with support of meals, food packages, medical care during the Covid hardship time.

Funding partners include: Blue Dragon, KOTO, Blossom House, Huong La Centre and village communities in Sapa connected to our Grade 10 Trip Week projects. Thanks to you, in the last two years we have supported:

  • 70 street families in Hanoi in emergency rent support
  • 3 tonnes of rice for vulnerable adults and children during social distancing timing in Hanoi
  • 60 families in Hue with emergency rent; food and necessities
  • safe accommodation at the Blue Dragon for 13 children in crisis
  • keeping 3 Blue Dragon shelters running at full capacity
  • 25 low-income families in Soc Son - Hanoi and 30 low-income families in My Duc - Hanoi with pandemic aid essentials which included food - masks and sanitisers
  • 138 disadvantaged youth from Koto with nutritious daily meals and medical support in a safe environment
  • meals for 40 children/ young adults and 15 nuns at Huong La Centre during the crisis

With your help, UNIS Hanoi will continue to partner with its Service Learning organisations to provide sustainable solutions which can be supported through student and community engagement.

Thank you for your support and for helping us to live our Mission in this time of local and global crisis.
