Gaia in Tây Hồ

A gift to the Hanoi Community from UNIS Hanoi

Experience The Earth As Never Before

From 28 October - 2 November 2025, the internationally acclaimed artwork Gaia by British artist Luke Jerram will be on display at Vườn Hoa Lạc Long Quân, beside the iconic Double Ceramic Dragons on the shore of Tây Hồ Lake. Following its three-week display on the UNIS Hanoi campus,  where it was experienced by more than 3,000 local students and 2,000 members of the UNIS community, along with diplomats, government officials, artists, educators, and United Nations representatives, Gaia now extends its reach to the wider public of Hanoi.

This awe-inspiring seven-metre model of Earth uses high-resolution NASA Blue Marble imagery to recreate the view of our planet from space. Bathed in soft light and surrounded by Hanoi’s skyline, Gaia invites visitors to reflect on the beauty, fragility, and unity of our shared home.

An Invitation to Wonder

Presented in partnership with the Government of Vietnam, Gaia at Tây Hồ marks the first time this globally celebrated artwork has been exhibited publicly in Hanoi.

Free and open to everyone, the installation transforms Vườn Hoa Lạc Long Quân into a space for reflection and connection. Hanoi’s residents and visitors alike can find inspiration in the sculpture and experience a moment of calm in the heart of the city: all inspired by our UN values and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Why It Matters

At UNIS Hanoi, Gaia is more than art, it’s a call to awareness.

Through the Gaia & SDG Experience, UNIS students and educators connect local learning to global responsibility, turning awe into action for our planet.

By bringing Gaia to Tây Hồ, UNIS Hanoi extends its mission beyond campus, uniting art, education and community under one shared sky.

About the Artwork

Rooted in our mission, vision, and values, Gaia reflects UNIS Hanoi’s belief in the power of education to inspire action for a better world. Created by British artist Luke Jerram, Gaia is a seven-metre-diameter sculpture illuminated from within to reveal the planet in stunning detail. It features NASA’s 2012 Blue Marble imagery, the most accurate depiction of Earth ever captured from space. Since its debut in 2018, Gaia has appeared in over 30 countries, from the Natural History Museum in London to UN climate conferences worldwide. Its arrival in Hanoi forms part of our UNIS Hanoi celebrations of the SDGs, and our deep honouring of this year’s UN@80 | Việt Nam@80 celebrations, fostering global cooperation and local action for a sustainable future.
