“There’s diversity of opportunity at UNIS Hanoi”

When Dayeon Lee arrived in Hanoi at the age of ten and learned of UNIS Hanoi, she immediately wanted to join the school. It would take another six years before her dream to study at UNIS Hanoi would come true.

Explaining why she was so eager to be a student at UNIS Hanoi, Dayeon, known to her friends as Isabelle, said, “When my family first came from Seoul to live in Hanoi, I was attending another school. After I heard about UNIS Hanoi and recognised the diverse opportunities available here, I asked my parents if I could enrol.”

Fortunately her parents agreed and she’s never looked back. As soon as Isabelle arrived she quickly seized the opportunities available to her, enhancing her academic skills, participating in the School’s orchestra as a violinist and playing Varsity volleyball.

During the last two years as an IB Diploma student Isabelle has had the freedom to study subjects she loves; subjects such as the sciences, Global Politics and Spanish for the first time. In addition, Isabelle has been involved with ‘Helping Hands’ a Service Learning project that aims to help vulnerable schoolchildren in Sapa, plus ‘Medx’ - a Student Initiative Programme (SIP) that equips UNIS Hanoi students with first aid skills.

Isabelle believes these unique experiences have set her up for her future life as a pharmacist - her dream profession. She revealed, “I spent a lot of time visiting my grandparents in hospital when I was younger and that’s what piqued my interest in working in a hospital as a healthcare professional. When I became fascinated by organic chemistry here at UNIS, pharmacy seemed the right field for me to pursue.

As she graduates from her dream high school, Isabelle is feeling ready for her next chapter - university in the UK. “The teachers and the general environment at UNIS Hanoi have supported my learning. I will definitely miss this school!
