Forever Phoenix (Autumn Alumni E-News 2025-2026)

Message from the Head of School

This autumn, our campus has come alive with moments that remind us why UNIS Hanoi is such a unique community. In just a few short months, we have celebrated the grand opening of our new Sports Centre, welcomed families and friends to a vibrant Community Fair, and seen how thoughtful design, from refreshed classrooms to new all-access facilities, can transform daily life for our students.

Dr Elizabeth Gale reminds us in her reflections that these milestones are not just about new buildings or events. They are a living expression of our mission, to inspire excellence and empower our students to create positive, sustainable impact. Already this school year, we have welcomed more than 50 alumni back to campus, reconnecting across generations and showing the enduring strength of the Phoenix community.

Invitation to Experience Gaia

This October, UNIS Hanoi is hosting Gaia
by British artist Luke Jerram. This seven-metre illuminated sculpture of Earth offers an astronaut’s view of our planet, showcasing its preciousness, fragility, and interconnectedness.
Alongside Gaia, visitors can enjoy the SDG Experience, an interactive journey into the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. This is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our planet and our role as global changemakers.
Alumni are warmly invited to join us for two special events:
Alumni Tour – 14 October
Community Night – 21 October (featuring a special performance by the Secondary Orchestra)

RSVP HERE BEFORE 10 OCTOBER

Alumni Spotlight: Khanh and Dat (Class of 2025)
This year, two UNIS Hanoi Graduate Scholars are making headlines through their extraordinary achievements:

  • Khanh Nguyen earned a full scholarship worth nearly USD 400,000 to Washington and Lee University (USA), where she will pursue her passion for psychology.
  • Dat Nguyen received a USD 360,000 scholarship to Franklin and Marshall College, supported by his outstanding IB score of 44 out of 45 and an SAT result of 1470 out of 1600.
Their journeys of resilience, talent, and determination have been celebrated by the whole country through stories in the national media: Their success is a powerful reminder of how opportunity changes lives—and how your support can help the next generation of Phoenixes soar.

Be an Inspirational Role Model
Think back to your own time in high school—wouldn’t you have appreciated hearing real-world advice from someone who had been in your shoes?

On 25 November, alumni will have the opportunity to join our Career Fair and speak directly with students about your journeys, challenges, and lessons learned. Even a short conversation can open doors, spark ideas, and give students the confidence to explore new paths.

Big Ideas 2025

Every year, our community comes together to turn bold ideas into reality through Annual Giving, through projects that reflect our mission, vision, values, and the UN SDGs.

In the past, Big Ideas have helped expand solar power on campus (now providing nearly 20% of our daily energy needs), create a Sustainability Centre and Botanical Garden, and make inclusive AI translation available to families from diverse language backgrounds.
This year, the next Big Idea could be yours!

Submit your Big Idea by October 26

Alumni Voices in Research
We are proud to highlight the meaningful work of Kelly Kyung Hee Kim, an alumni parent and PhD candidate at Gachon University in Korea. Her research explores the experiences of Korean adolescents living abroad, with a focus on identity, cultural adaptation, career preparation, bilingualism, and friendships.
Kelly is now inviting alumni to contribute to the final stage of her study. By completing a short survey, you can help validate her findings and ensure that globally mobile students are better supported in the future.
The survey closes on 20 October 2025, but early responses would be especially helpful for Kelly as she works on her analysis. Please note that the survey is completely anonymous.

Gene Lee’s Homecoming

When Gene Lee (Class of 2011) returned to UNIS Hanoi after 28 years, he expected a quiet walk down memory lane. He unexpectedly found himself reunited with a former teacher, Ms Hằng, in a deeply moving moment for both of them.
An ex-international flight attendant and now a Senior Global Account Manager at Publicis Groupe, Gene brings his passion for creativity and his understanding of cultural diversity to global brands. His professional journey, from global travel to building markets, reflects the resilience, adaptability, and international mindset nurtured at UNIS Hanoi.
His visit was a powerful reminder that the relationships forged at UNIS Hanoi are never left behind. They live on in the stories, values, and connections that shape who we become.
