Space Availability and Wait Pool

Policies and Placement

We open applications for the new school year starting mid-January and begin making offers in March. We offer a rolling admissions process and accept applications throughout the year and offer places to students deemed admissible  in accordance with our admissions policies. We also recommend new students start with their peers in August or at the start of the second semester in January. However, we do understand that families move throughout the academic year and we do our best to make these transitions as smooth as possible.

 

Admissions Policies

There are many factors that will influence student admissions into UNIS Hanoi including:

Cultural Diversity Policy: 
In order to retain our truly diverse student body, nationality quotas have been applied to our admissions process.

EAL Policy:
We offer support for English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners based on grade specific quotas. 

Learning Support:
We successfully serve a managed number of students presenting with mild and moderate learning differences. Each application will be reviewed individually to determine if a child's learning support needs can be supported successfully by our daily programme.

Prioritisation Policy:
As a school founded by the United Nations and the Vietnamese government, we give priority to United Nations agency families, diplomatic corps, siblings of current students, alumni families and expatriate families. 

Priority Lanes

Lane 1 Families working for the United Nations, diplomatic corps, faculty children and scholarship students
Lane 2              Siblings of enrolled students and UNIS Hanoi graduates
Lane 3 Returning alumni students, alumni siblings and children of alumni students
Lane 4 Expatriate families temporarily residing in Hanoi
Lane 5 Vietnamese Nationals

Space is Available to Offer*
  • We expect to have immediate space availability for all admissible Lane 1 and Lane 2 applicants across these grades.
  • For Lane 3 and Lane 4 applicants, there are opportunities for admission. However, some may be placed in a waiting pool.

Space Availability is Limited*
  • These Grades are near or expected to soon reach full capacity.
  • Space may be immediately available for admissible Lane 1 applicants; some admissible Lane 1 applicants may be placed in a waiting pool and it is possible but not definite, subject to procedures outlined here, that space will become available in time for the new semester.
  • All Lane 2 applicants are likely to be placed in a waiting pool and it is possible, but not definite, subject to procedures outlined here, that space will become available in time for the new semester.
  • Admissible Lane 3 and 4 applicants are expected to be placed in a waiting pool and it is unknown if space will become available in time to offer for the new semester.
  • Applications are valid for two years; waitpooled candidates from Lanes 1 through 4 who are not offered a space for their requested entry date will remain eligible for consideration should space open during the applicant’s two-year application window.
  • Applying early and/or having a flexible entry date will improve an applicant’s chances of admission.

Space Availability is Very Limited*
  • These Grades are near or at full capacity.
  • Admissible Lane 1 applicants are likely to be placed in a waiting pool and it is possible but not definite, subject to procedures outlined here, that space will become available in time for the new semester.
  • Admissible Lane 2, 3 and 4 applicants are expected to be placed in a waiting pool and space is unlikely to become available in time to offer for the next semester.
  • Applications are valid for two years; waitpooled candidates from Lanes 1 through 4 who are not offered a space for their requested entry date will remain eligible for consideration should space open during the applicant's two-year application window.
  • Applying early and/or having a flexible entry date will improve an applicant’s chances of admission.

Space is Currently Unavailable to Offer*
  • These Grades are very near or at full capacity 
  • Admissible Lane 1 applicants are likely to be placed in a waitpool and it is unknown if space will become available in time for the new semester; Lane 1 applicants who remain in the waiting pool for one semester are most often, but not always, offered enrollment for the following semester.
  • Space availability for Lane 2 applicants is not expected in time for the new semester; some Lane 2 applicants who remain in the wait pool for one semester may be offered enrollment for the following semester.
  • Space availability for Lane 3 and 4 applicants is not expected in time for the new semester and it is unknown if space for future semesters will become available for Lane 3 and 4 applicants who are placed in the waiting pool.
  • Applications are valid for two years; waitpooled candidates from Lanes 1 through 4 who are not offered a space for their requested entry date will remain eligible for consideration should space open during the applicant’s two-year application window.

  • Applying early and/or having a flexible entry date will improve an applicant’s chances of admission.
