Theatre
Course Outline: DP Theatre is a multifaceted course of study that gives students the opportunity to develop theatre as creators, designers, directors and performers, transforming ideas into action as inquisitive and productive artists. DP Theatre encourages students to appreciate that through the processes of researching, creating, preparing, presenting and critically reflecting on theatre they gain a richer understanding of themselves, their community and the world.
Music
Course Outline: Music provides an opportunity for young musicians to develop a deeper understanding and mastery of knowledge, theory and skills as performers, creators and listeners. Students can roll up their sleeves and dig into 500+ years of Western Art Music as well as music from around the world, leading to greater understanding, more thoughtful performing and more creative composing.
Visual Arts
Course Outline: The DP Visual Arts Course encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. It is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency. It is not about talent; it is about enjoying art. Skills that are important: inquiry, critical thinking, development of ideas, independence and personal motivation (a passion for the arts).
Film
Course Outline: Film is a powerful and stimulating art form. This course aims to develop students as proficient makers and interpreters of film. Through the study and analysis of film texts, and through practical exercises in film production, this course develops students’ critical and creative abilities and their appreciation of artistic, cultural and historical perspectives in film.
