IB Diploma - Grades 11 &12 

UNIS Hanoi's curriculum is representative of the diverse community enrolled at our School. Though not able to meet the requirements of every national system, the School provides a comprehensive curriculum that reflects the School's Mission and International Baccalaureate (IB) Philosophy. 

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is offered to students in Grades 11 & 12. UNIS Hanoi's IB Diploma programme is designed to meet the needs for entry into university. In line with our 'whole child' philosophy, every student is encouraged to take advantage of the broad range of co-curricular and After School activities on offer.

Academic Pathways for Grade 11 &12 students

UNIS Hanoi supports every student in identifying the academic pathway which is best for them. The right pathway enables students to reach their fullest potential by engaging in an appropriate level of challenge.

Students have multiple options for their Grade 11 & 12 programme at UNIS Hanoi. The three most common pathways are outlined below and provide opportunities for personalised learning, such as enrolling in a course combination beyond the IB Diploma, and enrolling in modified High School courses. 

PATHWAY 1: UNIS Hanoi High School Diploma and the IB Diploma

This pathway provides a broad range of opportunities for students to gain entry into tertiary institutions worldwide. When selecting DP courses students should bear in mind subject areas that they enjoy and excel in but they should also consider future university options and possible careers pathways as this can impact course selection. 

PATHWAY 2: UNIS Hanoi High School Diploma and IB Courses 

This pathway provides courses that lead toward the fulfilment of the UNIS Hanoi Diploma combined with the acquisition of an IB Courses Transcript. Individual examinations are selected from subjects offered within the Diploma.  

PATHWAY 3: UNIS Hanoi High School Diploma

This pathway provides courses that satisfy requirements for the UNIS Hanoi High School Diploma accredited by CIS/WASC. Specific courses are outlined under the Pathways Towards Graduation section in the HS Handbook. This pathway provides preparation for meeting the entry requirements for colleges and universities worldwide.

The IB Diploma Programme

All students at UNIS Hanoi have the opportunity to study the IB Diploma. This requires students to complete:

  • 1 Studies in Language and Literature course
  • 1 Mathematics course
  • 1 Language Acquisition course
  • 1 Science course
  • 1 Humanities course
  • A sixth course which may be in Arts, Science, Humanities or Language. 

Three of these courses must be taken at Higher Level, and three at Standard Level.
