UNISMUN: Get..Set..Debate!

Mark the date on your calendar and start counting down because the UNISMUN 2-4 March 2023 conference is only a week away! There will be 17 schools across four countries taking part in this conference: United Nations International School of Hanoi (UNIS Hanoi), International School of Ho Chi Minh City, Reigate Grammar School of Vietnam, Concordia International School of Hanoi, American Community School of Jordan, Seoul Foreign School, Hanoi International School, Seoul International school, Singapore International School Gamuda, Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin, American International School in Vietnam, St. Paul American School of Hanoi, British International School of Hanoi, Brent International School of Manila, Nguyễn Tất Thành High School and Gyeonggi Suwon International School. Over 300 people will be participating in the UNISMUN March conference serving as Honourable Chairs, Delegates, and Administrators.

Our Secretary General, Annie Jang, and our President of the General Assembly, David Lee, welcome all delegates, chairs and admin to our second in person conference since the Covid-19 pandemic!

The conference will be between 9:00 – 17:00. There will be a large banquet at the end  for all delegates to celebrate the successful conference! The full schedule of the UNISMUN March 2023 conference for High School can be accessed here, and for Middle School here.

Thanks to our UNISMUN Tech Department, we will be able to have our conference live-streamed and the viewings will rotate between all committees. We encourage all spectators and parents to watch these lively conference debates via the livestream links, and cheer on all participants!

In last week’s UNISMUN general meeting, all assemblies had joined together to have a mock debate with our admins team, media corps team, delegates, and chairs to practice our rolls and procedure at our grand UNISMUN 2-4 March 2023 Conference.

The Leadership team has been working extremely hard in managing all logistics and planning to ensure the conference runs smoothly and is an enjoyable experience for all.

Andy Choi, Head of President and Chair training team says “I am feeling most fervent about engaging in the upcoming conference. Delegates from across the world debating global issues under one shared roof is an unparalleled opportunity that is sure to offer a propitious and invigorating experience for all involved”. The UNISMUN chairs have been developing their procedural and general knowledge over the past few months, learning how to act and perform as a strong leader, capable of managing their council with the utmost decorum. Moreover, running through the mock debate with everyone allowed the chairs to get a feel of working alongside Admins and Delegates. All chairs received meaningful feedback that will help them refine and improve their skills for the conference.

Additionally, at the mock debate, delegates were able to practice within a MUN conference environment, which had helped them become familiar with the procedure and comfortable with the overall process. Young Woo Ko, the Deputy Head of the Ambassador and Delegate training team says “We have prepared our delegates to be ready with their key documents and understand the procedure of UNISMUN and made the best possible stage for them to deliver, which we are confident they will do as evidenced by what we’ve seen in the meetings building to the conference”. Delegates have put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into researching their country’s stance and issues, drafting resolutions and opening speeches in order to maximised their performing abilities.

Admin training is proceeding as planned, with students becoming more accustomed to MUN procedures. On the last days before the conference, the Admin and Hospitality team will be focusing on determining roles for the individual members and working on logistical planning for the conference. Ivan Vo, Head of Admin Training says “There has been lots of preparation that has been tedious for the team, but in the end, I know the conference will be a successful one especially after learning from the November conference“.

This week the Admins along with Media corps did a campus run through where they became familiarised with all important locations and rotations. The Media team has been planning and practicing the process of taking pictures and videos to prepare for the conference. Hien Nguyen, Head of marketing and branding says “I am confident that my team is fully prepared for the March 2023 Conference as this conference is larger than the November 2022 Conference”. The Media Corps team has been trying out cameras and different editing styles for the opening and closing ceremony videos as well.

Simultaneously, The Middle School UNISMUN 4 March conference will also be taking place with a total of 61 delegates and chairs from UNIS Hanoi, St Paul, Nguyen Tat Thanh High School, and TH. There are a total of 3 MS MUN councils and they will be debating on:

  1. MS Security council will be debating on: The Issue of Redistribution of Global Resources
  2. MS Asia Pacific Council will be debating on: The Question of Combating the Impacts of Climate Change
  3. MS Population Movement Council will be debating on: The Question of Equal Opportunities for Migrants and Refugees.

We are very excited to greet everyone attending and hope to make this a meaningful and enjoyable experience altogether. We wish a safe journey to everyone that is travelling to Hanoi and wish you all good luck!!!
