UNIS Students Perform First VYO Concert

A group of UNIS Hanoi students who earned places on the Vietnam Youth Orchestra have successfully performed their first concert. And one of our students was the concertmaster!

Jihong Min, Jonatan Jarkulish, Yuriko Aguin (not pictured), Misaki Iseri, Ophelia Schlager, Sooa Lee, Yu Jeong Choi (not pictured) and Jay Kim (not pictured) played classical piece, the Blue Danube Waltz by Johan Strauss II, alongside 69 other young musicians in front of a live audience at the home of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.

Grade 11 student and violinist, Misaki Ileri was selected as the concertmaster – a role she is honoured to hold. She said, “A concertmaster is the ‘bridge’ between the entire orchestra and the conductor. Therefore it’s a very important role.”

Misaki, who joined UNIS Hanoi in the eighth grade, says violin has become a part of her life, and something she enjoys. She’s pleased she’s now a part of the Vietnam Youth Orchestra, getting to collaborate with other young musicians, in particular fellow UNIS Hanoi students.

The Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO) will perform a full concert in September. To find out more, please visit the VYO website.
