UNIS Hanoi Students Win First Place in University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business & Economics
Vietnam Case Competition Grand Finals!
UNIS Hanoi Grade 11 students – Heeseo Cho, Manasa Nadessan, and Trang Bui – were unanimously declared the grand finals winners in the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business & Economics Vietnam Case Competition on November 2nd in Ho Chi Minh City.
Professors from the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Business & Economics judged this nationwide competition, which received proposals from 80 teams across Vietnam. The teams were all given the same business scenario, and each team developed and presented their own unique solutions.
After working hard to create their proposal, Heeseo, Manasa, and Trang advanced to the semi-finals where they were required to make a live, online presentation via Zoom about their business case, which focused on an actual, thriving global IT consulting and solution provider with a strong presence in Vietnam, Singapore, and Australia. These presentations were evaluated and narrowed down to eighteen semi-finalists.
Only five teams were selected as finalists to present their ideas in person in Ho Chi Minh City. The University of Melbourne flew the Econobus Team, as they coined themselves, to Saigon early Saturday morning just for the day in order to present their case in person. With the judges commenting on their high level of preparation, presentation skills, and innovative ideas backed up by data and real-life examples, Heeseo, Manasa, and Trang were unquestionably the winners.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to High School teachers, Ms Kimber Cote and Mr Robert Borowik, for volunteering their time in order to accompany the Econobus Team to HCMC for the day. We would also like to express gratitude to High School Counsellor, Ms Andrea Fleming, for liaising with the University of Melbourne and supporting the students in this process.
Congratulations, Heeseo, Manasa, and Trang! As gracious victors, you not only celebrated the accomplishments of the other teams but also did an outstanding job of connecting with them. You demonstrated our school values of curiosity, community, and courage. We are truly proud of you!
