Honoring Visual Artists: Passion, Purpose
Honoring Visual Artists: Passion, Purpose
This semester we continued the Celebration of Visual Artists Award to include more brilliant students. Rather than only one from MS and one from HS we have moved to selecting one artist from each grade level with DP having two, as it is a two year programme. This award seeks to recognize Art students who demonstrate exemplary engagement and commitment to visual art and the UNIS values. This award recognizes students who have proven great skill and attitude in what we call “head, hand, and heart” both inside and outside of the art classroom.
The Values of the Celebration of Artists Award:
- Head: This symbolizes the intellectual engagement and critical thinking that students bring to their art. It highlights their ability to conceptualize, plan, and critique their work, demonstrating a deep understanding of artistic principles and theories.
- Hand: Representing the technical skills and craftsmanship involved in creating art, this value emphasizes the hands-on efforts students make to bring their ideas to life. It recognizes their proficiency and dedication to refining their skills in various artistic media.
- Heart: This represents the emotional depth and passion that students infuse into their creations. It acknowledges their ability to connect with their work and express themselves authentically, allowing their art to resonate with others on a personal level.
Honoring Our Recipients: These awards will be presented at divisional assemblies (MS 29 May and HS on 6 June).
GRADE 6 |
Scarlett has shown not only a passion for creating art, but also a willingness to help classmates by being kind, supportive, and encouraging. She does not give up easily and consistently challenges herself to create in new ways and experiment. You might have seen a poster made by Scarlet in some classrooms, reminding you to bring the necessary materials to class
GRADE 7 |
Maeve is a student who has shown tremendous growth through this year, consistently carrying a positive attitude, willingness to learn from mistakes, and always offering to help others. She has done this not only in art class, but with strong engagement and leadership in both iBlock Art Launch, service learning, and for set design for this year’s middle school musical.
GRADE 8 |
Ava is a student who continually demonstrates growth through passion. She approaches each project with big ideas and detailed plans to match. In the Art launch iBlock Ava was always seeking new ways of making artwork, challenging herself whilst having fun. Ava authentically finds joy in each artwork, sharing her learning by helping those around her. She leads quietly by example in the care she shows to others.
