Service group, Thuy An Sports

On 22 October, the service group Thuy An Sports led by Ingyu (G10) and Miguel (G10) successfully experienced a trip to Thuy An Center, a rehabilitation Center for local Vietnamese children with hearing or cognitive impairments. The group visited for various purposes: a center tour, sports with the kids, and a sign language session. In doing these kinds of visits our group can gain more insights into their center life, build on relationships through sports, and possible needs for the future our group to consider supporting through various means.

The group completed a trip in the morning, heading out to Ba Vi by bus. By actively engaging in sign language sessions and sports with kids from the center, the group comprehended the perspective of people with different hearing and language abilities. The group is looking forward to achieving further cooperation with the center.  UNIS members learned how to sign things like our names, sports and the Vietnamese alphabet along with phrases to engage further such as   “would you like to dance with me?”.

During the sports activities, the group split into two groups playing football or teaching a dance workshop.  It tested our new sign language skills and built on these relationships started during their first visit of the year to UNIS Hanoi just one week prior.

At this year’s Winterfest we will be selling items made by residents of Thuy An to raise money for future projects.  Items include tote bags, key chains, and zipper pouches to name a few.  We look forward to our continued relationship with Thuy An and the opportunity to help them throu
