SCO Wellness Committee’s Perimenopause Talk – A Huge Success!

Our inaugural educational event had such a great turnout that we had to bring in extra chairs! 

In our session, we explored the importance of advocating for our own health, particularly in navigating the often confusing and sometimes misleading information surrounding menopause. We emphasised that adopting healthy lifestyle changes during menopause not only helps manage symptoms but also enhances overall quality of life and reduces the risk of future health issues. By prioritizing balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, mental well-being, and preventive healthcare, women can approach menopause with greater ease and sustain their vitality for years to come.

  QUICK SUMMARY: DEBUNKING COMMON MENOPAUSE MYTHS

Contrary to popular belief, menopause:

Is NOT always a negative experience
Does NOT happen overnight
Does NOT end when symptoms start  
Does not START automatically at 50 for every woman
Does NOT make the end of sexual desire
Does NOT cause extreme mood swings for all women
Does NOT make weight gain inevitable, &
DOES have more symptoms than just hot flashes/hot flushes
Hormone Replacement Therapy is dangerous for everyone.

  SYMPTOM TRACKING

Here is a link to a list of common perimenopause symptoms in English, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese. Tracking your symptoms can help you communicate effectively with your healthcare provider, as a single hormone test only captures one day’s snapshot, not the overall picture.

  WHAT’S AVAILABLE IN HANOI?

We are creating a document, for the SCO section of the portal, outlining resources available in Hanoi & will share that with the UNIS community when finished. You can also consult with your own healthcare provider, whether here in Hanoi, or during an annual health check in Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or your home country.

Important Reminder: Many healthcare providers may not know the latest information & advancements in menopausal treatments. It’s important to bring your own research & advocate for the best decision for you based on your body’s unique needs.
