PYPx is a Wrap!

Each year, students in Grade 5 engage in a process called the PYP Exhibition. This is a significant time in the life of the Grade 5 students at UNIS Hanoi. Through an extended, independent  inquiry, students showcase who they have become as learners and use the skills they have acquired over the course of their PYP learning journey from Early Years to Grade 5. They demonstrate they are global citizens who can make a difference in the world for themselves and others. 

Five weeks ago we launched the PYP Exhibition journey with our Grade 5 students. Since then, a lot has happened. Students formed questions around an issue of global or personal significance. They researched using a variety of sources in the hopes of becoming experts. Seeking a variety of perspectives has helped students understand how complex issues can be. Students collaborated with other students,, mentors, MUN mentors and experts in the field. In addition, students have conducted interviews, created surveys, written poems, created stories, crafted songs, designed games and taken action.

On May 8th and 9th, Grade 5 students shared and celebrated their journey with the UNIS community. It was a chance for students to share what they have learned, teach about their issue and also an opportunity to spark a change in others’ thinking.

This year’s celebration took place  in a variety of locations around campus. Visitors from Reigate Grammar School attended along with all elementary students and some secondary students and teachers. Those attending said it felt like a festival.  Students planned “experiences” for their visitors that engaged them in exciting ways.  Some of these experiences included:

• Board games
• Simulations
• Sorting products
• Spaces to sit and read
• Music
• Animations
• Interactive quizzes
