UNIS Hanoi Hosted The School Book Battle Event

UNIS Hanoi Hosted The School Book Battle Event

On Wednesday, March 12, UNIS Hanoi hosted the Hanoi Schools Battle of the Books tournament. Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading program that encourages students to read and have fun competing against their peers. The program is open to students in grades three, four, and five. There are 10 books selected for the Battle of the Books program each year.

This year, UNIS had 55 students on 11 teams participate in Battle of the Books, meeting during Tuesday lunch recess since November. An in-house double elimination tournament determined which two UNIS teams competed in the Hanoi Schools Battle of the Books tournament.

Teams from the British International School, Concordia, RGSV, St. Mary’s, St. Paul’s, UNIS, and Westlink competed. Teams answered questions about the 10 books used in the program this year. There were four rounds of questions, including “In Which Book”, multiple choice, “In Which Books”, and long answers. Teams worked together to answer the questions, and the teachers and librarians from the schools helped with scoring. Over 70 students competed in the tournament, with 14 total teams (two per school). 80 parents came to watch their children participate.

After a snack break for the teams, the top three teams were announced. The third place teams were CoCoMelon (UNIS) and Bookworms (BIS), second place went to SMIS Geniuses (St. Mary’s), and the first place team was The Phoenixes (UNIS). The winners received medals and prizes, and a trophy was awarded to the first place team. All the students who participated were given a Battle of the Books 2025 pencil, a reading sticker, and a badge.

A special thanks to Luna, Madhavan, and Teddy, three UNIS fifth graders who volunteered to help at the tournament. They worked hard during the competition to get scoresheets to the teams and the teachers.
