Hanoi Youth Math 2025- Engaging Minds | Latest New
On 19 April 2025, the third Hanoi Youth Math Conference (HYMC) was held in UNIS Hanoi. HYMC is a fun middle school math conference for passionate and dedicated mathematicians. 7 high school students (Minh, Koki, Duc, Beomjoon, Junyoung, Arin, Seungmin) who are passionate about math organized this event by creating the math questions, booking the rooms, gathering equipment, and attending weekly meetings.
A total of 38 middle school students from 3 different schools – Dewey, True North, and UNIS – came to school on a Saturday to solve math problems and explore their passion.
The event was organised into 4 rounds. Three of them were team rounds where teams of 5 students were collaborating to come up with creative solutions to challenging math problems. The other round was a highly engaging 30 minutes individual exam where students were able to express their own strengths.
A lot of students enjoyed round 2: the magical jogging round. 8 different teams of 5 solved 15 questions to earn points for buying power ups. They then used the power ups to help them in the jogging stage where they had to compete for each others’ name tags. The students were ecstatic about the active aspect of this round and cheered for their teams.
Another round we had was the miracle balls. Although there was unexpected weather, the leaders demonstrated their flexibility and quickly figured out an alternative where the participants stayed indoors but were still able to enjoy the full potential of the miracle balls. All teams had 2 minutes to answer challenging questions to earn chances for shooting a ball into a basket, which gave them points. The time limit and the level of questions challenged the students, but they were able to collaborate with each other.
