HS Tufting workshop funded by the Impact fund
Wednesday afternoon (19 February) buzzed with creativity as high school students participated in an intensive tufting workshop, led by local textiles artist Kim Thêu Nổi and generously funded by the UNIS Impact Fund. The leadership of the HS SIP “Tuft Club” leaders Thy (G10) and Anh Thy (G10) supported the organisation of this workshop. Students learned the fundamentals of tufting, using specialised guns to punch yarn through backing material, and quickly mastered the techniques to bring their unique designs to life. The fast-paced session allowed students to explore color and technique, resulting in a diverse array of personalised tufted pieces that they were able to take home.
Both students and the artist expressed enthusiasm for the workshop, with students remarking on how much they learned in the short time frame.
This hands-on workshop, made possible by the UNIS Impact Fund, provided a valuable introduction to textile arts and fostered problem-solving, creativity, and a sense of accomplishment. It highlighted the importance of connecting with local artists to enrich our students’ educational experiences, and we extend our sincere gratitude to the UNIS Impact Fund for making this rewarding workshop possible.
The local artist, Kim Thêu Nổi, will have a booth at the UNIS Spring Fair. You can find out more about this textile artist: https://msha.ke/
