Grade 9 Visual Artists Meet with Vietnamese Artist Hà Minh
This week the Grade 9 Visual Arts students connected with local artist and poet Hà Minh via video call for an insight into her creative process. She is a key artist inspiring students for their current unit where students consider how aesthetic choices communicate artistic intentions.Beyond discussing her background as an artist, an ethnic minority and a trans woman, Hà Minh gave students a virtual tour of her studio, providing a rare look at a professional workspace in action. Her talk focused on:
- Still Life & Color: How she builds compositions and uses bold palettes.
- Art & Poetry: The fluid connection between her writing and her visual work.
- Symbolism: Using objects to represent complex ideas.
- Media: How using different types of paints provides different experiences for the artist
The interaction was collaborative; Hà Minh listened to students' ideas for their own still life projects and what they liked about painting. The class walked away with inspiration and a better understanding of how to use symbolism and weave personal meaning into their final artwork.
