Grade 8 Exploring “Iterative Design”
Grade 8 Exploring “Iterative Design”
In their MYP Design classes this month, our 8th graders have started to explore design thinking in a context where the end product of a project is uncertain at the start. They are applying iterative design principles to a research and development project that requires them to stay agile. Students are challenged to use casting and moulding techniques to create a functional product, and they can choose any medium they like.
It has been messy in the design studio with students working with chocolate, bioplastics, candle wax, soap, plaster, resin, concrete, candy, pewter and more. The project is a nice example of fun and challenging practical work serving big-picture transferable learning goals. Check out some photos of ‘iteration 1’.
