On Tuesday, 19 October, Grade 12 DP Environmental Systems and Societies students ventured to Soc Son to gain hands-on experience in ecological fieldwork. The trip offered a unique opportunity to apply classroom theory to real-world ecosystems.
Students employed a variety of techniques to assess the environment, including quadrat sampling at the forest’s edge, abiotic measurements of two streams, and a line transect survey along a reservoir bank.
Victoria shared her enthusiasm, saying, "It was great to see how the theory that we learn in class applies in actual ecosystems."
Andrea echoed this sentiment, adding, "The trip was an opportunity to learn some practical skills and to appreciate being in nature."
Emiri expressed her enjoyment of using the quadrat to measure biodiversity, highlighting the tool’s effectiveness in ecological research.
