Governance as Leadership Training Institute at UNIS Hanoi 2024

Over the weekend of 7-8 September, the Board hosted the 8th Governance as Leadership Training Institute (GALTI) for international school board members and administrators from the South East Asia Region and beyond.  The training workshop was designed to enhance collaboration between boards and school heads, focusing on improving governance practices within schools.

The two-day GALTI workshop was preceded by a one-day session specifically for 20 board chairs and heads of school, which highlighted the unique dynamics between these two roles and explored ways to strengthen their partnership.

Despite Typhoon Yagi, 70 delegates from 12 international schools successfully attended the two-day GALTI, led by Homa Tavangar (Founder, Big Questions Institute) and Rami Madani (Head of School, International School of Kuala Lumpur).  Over the course of the weekend, Homa and Rami shared a wealth of information and equipped us with practical tools to help us, as board members, foster a culture of governance while fulfilling our fiduciary and strategic responsibilities.  We also addressed the multifaceted challenges that international schools are navigating in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Head of School Jane McGee for the extensive planning required to bring such a diverse group of delegates together and the contingency measures taken due to the typhoon.  Additionally, I would like to extend my deep gratitude to our dedicated UNIS Hanoi Board of Directors, who generously gave up their weekend to participate in this valuable workshop and learn together.

Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.  As a Board, we are proud to lead this important governance initiative, and we remain committed to fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence within UNIS Hanoi.

Sincerely,

Maria Chung

Board Chair
