Our MYP Design students have hit the ground running this semester with a series of hands-on projects designed to hone their skills in woodworking, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), technical drawing, and workshop safety.
In the first few weeks of the semester, students have been busy creating simple yet functional products. These projects serve as a practical introduction to the tools, techniques, and processes that will form the foundation of their MYP Design education.
In addition to their practical work, students are also exploring CAD and technical drawing. These skills are essential for visualising and communicating their design ideas effectively.
By learning to use CAD software, students can create digital models of their designs and explore different iterations before committing to a final product.
Safety is a top priority in our workshop, and students are receiving thorough training in safe work practices. They are learning how to use tools correctly, handle hazardous materials safely, and follow emergency procedures. Once students have demonstrated their proficiency in these areas, they will earn their “workshop safety certification” and display their accomplishments proudly on their laptops with special stickers.
As the semester progresses, our MYP Design students will continue to build on their skills and knowledge. They will undertake more complex projects, explore advanced techniques, and develop a deeper understanding of the design cycle. We are excited to see what they will accomplish in the coming months.
