UNIS Hanoi has successfully completed the CIS/WASC/IB accreditation process, a significant milestone that reflects the collective efforts of our entire community—students, parents, faculty, and staff.
We welcomed 11 educators from the Asia Pacific region as part of our 5-year accreditation cycle. UNIS Hanoi is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Our visitors met with various members of our community, including faculty and staff, students, parents, and leadership.
This cycle, UNIS Hanoi was able to undertake the CIS/WASC Pathway 2 for accreditation. This option allowed the school to dive into intentional and authentic strategic projects under the ‘Wellbeing’ banner. The school had identified 4 core projects to submit as part of our accreditation process:
- The implementation of a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support program
- The development of a community wide Identity-Based Harm Reporting Tool
- The development of a curriculum and policy audit tool
- The development of a community definition of Wellbeing
Highlights from the IBO reflected a strong commitment to the UNIS values and living the mission and vision of the school everyday. They observed and had conversations with students who demonstrate the attributes of being a lifelong learner. They also appreciated the commitment to conceptual, contextual and highly interactive teaching and learning – they remarked that this was strongly evident in classroom visits. They summarized their initial impressions by saying that “you are a wonderful school” and there is “a real commitment to high quality teaching and learning”.
The CIS/WASC team provided feedback on our projects and commented that as a school everything at UNIS is about wellbeing and acceptance. Additionally, they commented that one special area is that UNIS Hanoi has 65 nationalities and we’re able to bring people together. It signals that our mission, vision and values are alive and well within the rich tapestry of life at UNIS Hanoi.
We would like to thank our faculty and staff who dedicated numerous hours to prepare high quality self-study documents and project reports; our students who met with members of the visiting teams to share openly and honestly about our school; our parents who also met with the team to share their experiences and impressions of our programme.
This accreditation cycle has demonstrated UNIS Hanoi’s commitment to living our values and we are confident that we have laid a strong foundation for the next phase of our school’s growth and development.
We were especially honoured by the words of Peter Sagun, the IBO Accreditation Lead, who said:
“Out of the hundreds of schools I’ve visited across the world, UNIS Hanoi is the gold standard of an IB education.“
We are excited to share the full accreditation report, which we expect to receive by early February 2025. This document will provide deeper insights into the feedback and recommendations shared by the visiting teams and guide us in building an even stronger future for UNIS Hanoi.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are shaping a school that truly exemplifies excellence in education and a commitment to lifelong learning.
