SDG Design in Grade 4 Art Class

Grade 4 inquired into the principles of design in the SDG icons during SDG Week. They then created new logo designs of their own to match an SDG. 

 

Donated Food Presented to Huong La Centre

Thank you to everyone who donated much needed non-perishable goods to the Huong La Centre. The Huong La Service Learning group was able to raise over 50kg of rice, beans, and other non-perishable food items.

On Sunday October 25, the student leaders of Huong La Service Learning group and their supervisors were able to visit the children at the Centre. The children were more than delighted to see us, since it has been over 10 months since our last visit.

Following the huge success of the food drive, plans are now underway to launch a brand new project – renovation of a classroom!

At the Centre, we found there were two classrooms that needed renovations and we, as a service group, have decided to assist the Centre in renovating those classrooms. The work includes repainting the walls, filling in windows and replacing furniture.

Food Donation to Blossom House

In March 2020, UNIS Hanoi campus was closed in support of Government efforts to contain COVID-19. This meant groceries we had preordered would have gone to waste. In the spirit of the Phoenix, we decided to donate the groceries to the charity, Blossom House. Blossom House cares for Vietnam's most vulnerable girls, giving them access to healthcare, education and emotional support.

 

Helping Hands Service Group Trip to Sapa 

At the beginning of December 2019, the Helping Hands Service Group travelled to Sapa to provide the students from local schools in Sapa with clothing and food that had been donated by the UNIS and Hanoi community. Our goal was to make sure that the students had warm clothes for the winter as well as food for lunch so that they could stay at school throughout the day.

We went to Sa Seng school to deliver the clothes and organise the jumble sale. We organised clothing in piles based on warmth as we are in the middle of winter and the mountainous region of northern Vietnam are known to be much colder during the winter. The jumble sale was a success as all the clothes were put to use. We also provided the students with rice and cooking oil so they would be able to have lunch at school.

We also went to Sin Chai school and also brought them rice and we saw that the computers that we had previously donated had enabled them to create a room dedicated to learning about using technology for students in grades 1-5.

This trip has been beneficial in understanding that every bit of help counts as we have seen an enormous development in the facilities of the Sin Chai school over the past 5 years. A big THANK YOU to all of you who supported Helping Hands!
