We thank parents for their incredible Resilience during this time.

Message from the Head of School

The academic year 2019-2020 was a rollercoaster of a year and it is with much pride that I look back at our collective achievements, our resilience and our courage to be a caring and collaborative community in the face of immense challenges, uncertainty and loss.

Here are some of my 2019-2020 highlights. As a School, we:

  • Helped UNICEF celebrate 30 years of the Rights of the Child Convention
  • Welcomed the joint visiting Accreditation Team from the Council of International Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organisation to our community.
  • Hosted our first Virtual Tech Conference (VTC) which was attended for free by educators across the globe
  • Launched our new UNIS Impact Fund, designed to support student dreams for a better world.

As COVID-19 took hold, what started as a time of postponement, cancellation and closure, quickly became a time of challenging working conditions and real fear for the safety of our families and friends. A time when planning for any kind of future involved multiple scenarios to successfully face such unprecedented ‘unknown’. But this was also a time when we saw our students, teachers and parents come together to support student learning from home. We thank parents for their incredible resilience during this time. Thank you for trusting us with what is most precious to you - your children - and we believe the data below strongly supports our mission to deliver excellent learning, community, responsibility.

Message from the Board Chair

The 2019-2020 school year will forever be remembered as a time of enormous challenges. However, as our UNIS Hanoi community demonstrated, it was also a time of heroic resilience, creativity and empathy. The UNIS Hanoi Board of Directors is proud and honored to be a part of this community. The UNIS Hanoi Board of Directors began the 2019-2020 school year with three new Board members and the following important goals:

  • Development of a new 3-year strategic plan
  • Maintaining strong financial oversight
  • Governance training and leadership
  • Fundraising leadership

Along with these goals, the Board hosted the sixth Governance as Leadership Training Institute (GALTI), held an Advisory Council meeting and oversaw the re-accreditation process. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Board worked closely with the Head of School to monitor and address the impact of the crisis. I am grateful to the Head of School and my fellow 2019-2020 Board members for their deep commitment to guiding the school through this crisis. The Board is also grateful to the community members who volunteered on our committees and task forces for their essential guidance last semester.

The Board of Directors has followed the data shared in this Annual Report. We are pleased to see strong evidence of UNIS Hanoi’s success regarding learning, community and responsibility goals.
