Robin the Hood
The NEWEST, the FUNNIEST the BEST version of Robin the Hood ever seen in the UNIS canteen. The breathtaking maiden has been kidnapped! Robin the maiden’s lover sets out with his faithful men to rescue her. A passionate story full of humor and love.
 
 
So Long Farewell, Mrs. Breheney
This morning ECC and Elementary students sang songs and danced to wish their principal a fond farewell as she leaves UNIS Hanoi this year. 
 
 
Grade 11 Group 4 Project
Each year, the grade 11 science students take part in a cross-discipline science project as part of the IB Diploma Practical Scheme of Work.
 
 
Football Friendly - Teachers 5 Students 2
UNIS had their own little World Cup featuring the teachers versus the students.  The event celebrated the end of a great season of football for the UNIS teams.  A surprise win from the teachers made up for their defeats earlier in the season.
 
 
2006 Sports Awards Breakfast
Middle & High school students were invited to the 2006 Sports Awards Breakfast.  The breakfast was to recognize those students who have participated in UNIS sporting teams or achieved good results at one of our school sporting events during the year.
 
 
Robin the Hood - 13 and 14 June 2006 @ 6pm
Tickets available from Julian at the Community Relations Office or Liz Druitt in the Community Service Office.  Proceeds will support local service projects within the Vietnamese community.
 
 
Cyclo around Ciputra
As part of the Vietnamese program, three classes of Pre-kindergarten went on a cyclo (xich lo) ride around Ciputra.

 
 
Graduation Ceremony 2006
The 12th Graduation took place last Thursday in the The Melia Hotel. It was a proud moment for the Senior Class of 2006 as they sat before their peers, their families and their former teachers.

 
 
Middle School June Dance
The Middle School dance was a great success on Friday night. We had our dance in our own cafeteria which now has air conditioning and has been echo sound proofed.

 
 

The Tradition Continues!
Grade 12 students and parents gathered to plant another tree on the lawn outside the canteen. A beautiful granite stone plaque with all of the graduating senior names and their home country will be placed in the ground at the base of the tree.

 
 

Performing Arts Celebration
Grades 1 classes entertained their families with songs, dances, and poems about the life cycles of frogs, wolves, and glow worms, followed by the Grade 2’s visit to the Moulin Rouge with dancers, actors, singers, artists and musicians.

 
 

Grade One Visit to SOS Clinic
Grade 1H and 1J recently went to visit International SOS Clinic.  They had been learning about keeping our body healthy as part of their Unit of Inquiry Body Works. The staff at SOS were so friendly and knowledgeable.  

 
 

Green Team Visit Cuc Phuong - 4 May 2006
The Elementary Green Team went to Cuc Phuong National Park. They have been working all year to learn about the environment and endangered animals.

 
 

The Phantom of the Music Room
Who was playing the piano late at night in the music room when all the pirates and animals had finished their rehearsal? Was it a phantom? Is UNIS really haunted? Could the ghost busters scare whatever it was away?

 
 

Grade 9 & 10 French Class Excursion
On Tuesday April 4th all Grade 9 and 10 French students went on a field trip to l'Espace, the French Cultural Center in Hanoi to take part in an intercultural afternoon.

 
 

Visit to the French School
Grade 5 French students went to the French school on April 13th with their teacher, Mrs. Clemence Barbier.   The students designed a Powerpoint slideshow presentation.

 
 

Student Art Show - 19 to 21 April
From 19 to 21 April, all our students were proudly represented in the Whole School Art Exhibition held at the Hanoi Towers . Once again this year the whole school community was impressed with the work of our students.

 
 

ECC and Elementary Visits to Art Show
The ECC and Elementary classes visited the UNIS Art show on Thursday and Friday. The students had a tour in both the Elementary and Middle/Highschool display areas. Then they discussed what they saw.

 
 

Middle School March Dance
The Middle School leadership committee recently organised and ran a successful dance at Ciputra. The students enjoyed dancing under coloured lights.

 
 

Picasso Faces
Kindergarten class have been learning about Pablo Picasso in art. After having lots of fun looking at his surrealistic portraits we were inspired to come up with our own!

 
 

Grade 7 Field Trip to 'L'Espace'
On Friday March the 24th Grade 7 Intermediate level went to the French Cultural Institute 'L' ESPACE' in order to interview in French Mrs Van, who works in the cultural division of the Centre.

 
 

Cultural and Linguistic Field Trip to 'Petit Bruxelles'
On April 7th Grade 6 French class went down town to 'Le Petit Bruxelles' to have an afternoon snack in a francophone setting!

 
 

Elementary Sports Day
Elementary Sports Day was a huge success this year at UNIS. On March 16th, every student from Discovery to Grade 5 participated in a morning of fun activities which kept them moving.

 
 

French Artist Seb visits Grade One
It took a journey of 3 ½ days to get away from civilization and as we slogged through mud we realized the importance of our team mates to haul us out of it and appreciated Ellen Ha’s songs to keep our spirits high through muck and heat.

Water Puppets Splash Down at UNIS
On Friday 3rd of March, a Vietnamese Water Puppet troupe visited UNIS Elementary and ECC students. Four Vietnamese puppeteers performed an excellent puppet show on a mobile theatre.

 
 

Excursion to Green Tangerine Restaurant
Recently, the Yr 8 Upper Intermediate students went to Green Tangerine restaurant in the Old Quarter of Hanoi to sample a fusion of healthy French and Vietnamese cuisine.

 
 

Assembly by Grade 2 - 17 February 2006
Grade 2 has been studying transport in their latest Unit Of Inquiry. They researched a mode of transport and presented it at the assembly. They also performed actions to a song which was connected to their mode of transport.

 
 

Middle School's Formal Dinner and Dance Evening
The Middle School students had an enjoyable time at their annual Formal Dinner and Dance evening held at the Ciputra conference room on February 17th.

 
 

100th Day
Wednesday 16th of February was our 100th day in school and to mark the day Grade One had a big celebration! All 4 classes were a hive of activity.

 
 

Edible Art
Grade One students have been studying colour mixing in their art classes. To celebrate the end of their Unit they decided to make an edible colour wheel.

 
 

Trees of Tet
ECC children recently went on the fieldtrip to Phu Thuong peach blossom field and Nhat Tan kumquat garden where they could see Tet trees. They got to know the significant meaning of these trees of Tet as they listened to co Dung, the Vietnamese teacher.

 
 

Bon Apetit - HF 3 French class activity
The HF 3 French class of Grade 9 and 10 students interviewed Ms. Christine Keusch, a consultant working for ADEN for two months. The students found out more about how the canteen is run and the dishes prepared.

 
 

Year of the Dog - Elementary School Tet Assembly
The elementary Tet assembly hosted by Grade 1 students has reflected many significant aspects of Tet such as the Vietnamese Zodiac (played by 1R), some Tet traditions and customs (acted by 1J) and Vietnamese dances ( performed by 1H and 1P).

 
 

Year of the Dog - Middle & High School Tet Assembly
Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, is the most important festival for the Vietnamese people. It is a time where families and friends gather together to celebrate this special event. This year, Tet falls on January the 29th of the solar calendar.

Hammerheads in Ho Chi Minh City
On Friday December 2nd, the UNIS Hammerheads left to go to Ho Chi Minh City, for the Swim Meet that they host every year. Saturday the 3rd of December was a full day of competitive, but fun swimming.

 
 

Weird Science: 8 December 2005
Experiments & Explanations, Equipment and Hypotheses, Procedures & Fair Tests, Graphs and Data Displays…The Elementary Science Fair had all this and more as students led the charge towards a “hands-on” approach to Science.

 
 

ECC Learning journey - 1 December 2005
Tthe parents and caregivers of the Early Childhood Centre went on a journey of discovery and learning with their children. The morning began with a morning tea for parents before they went to the classrooms to discover what and how the children are learning.

 
 

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! - 2 December 2005
As part of their 1st grade unit on Green Planet and learning about setting, class 1R really got into the jungle spirit with their short play, The Crafty Chameleon.

 
 

ECC & Elementary Gym and Dance Assembly
The fourth annual Elementary Gymnastics and Dance Assembly was held on Friday, November 25th. Every student from Discovery to Grade 5 had a chance to display the skills they have been learning during in PE classes over the last 5 weeks.

 
 

Slamming
Slamming is competitive poetry -- a way for poets to assert themselves and their work as an exciting and relative art form. Poets are judged on their content, performance, and use of the language. The competition was held last week.

 
 

Weird and Wacky Wednesday - 16 November 2005
Weird and Wacky Wedneday was organised by Elementary Student Council to raise money for an English teacher for the Kids and Stone project.

 
 

MS Halloween Dance - 11 November 2005
The Middle School students all had a great time at their Halloween Dance at the Ciputra conference room. The MC’s, Jacob, Kate, Marc and George organized a fun night. Giulia was the DJ and had lots of great music.

 
 

PTA Bake and Book Sale: 11 November 2005
On Friday November 11th, PTA had its annual Bake and Book Sale. The class that brought the most items this day won a pizza lunch from the PTA.

 
 

Row Row Row a Boat - an ECC Highlight
After reading the story: "Who sank the boat" the children were introduced to the UNIT of Inquiry about Materials by using different materials to create a strong boat. Plastic floats but you can't cut it with scissors!

 
 

Middle School Soccer
The UNIS MS Soccer A team played soccer against a spirited Hanoi International School (HIS) on Thursday October 27th.

 
 

UN Day Celebrations - 14 October 2005
UNIS celebrated our annual UN Day with a whole-school assembly. The assembly was attended by members of the diplomatic community, representatives of agencies of the UN in Vietnam, parents and friends of the school.

 
 

Middle School Dance - 7 October 2005
There were tons of students in the dance. Almost everyone from middle school came!! There was quite a big crowd in the dance floor. The dance took place in Ciputra (between the two apartment buildings).

Grade 4 paraded their fantastic tribal masks at assembly as part of their unit of Inquiry, 'Cultural Signals'.

 
 

Swim Meet, 12 October 2005
After six weeks of training within Physical Education classes our Middle (6-8) and High School (9-12) students headed to Sao Mai Swimming Pool on Wednesday 12th October to test their skills against their classmates in a variety of swimming events.

 
 

UNIS Hanoi Bounces High
Saturday September 24th saw 65 students come out to participate in the UNIS Elementary School Basketball Tournament.  We had an excellent morning.

Tet Trung Thu Assembly performed by Grade 4 students, students workshops featuring traditional Vietnamese Tet Trung Thu toys, Tet Trung Thu party for ECC students and Tet Trung Thu party for Elementary School students.

High School Day, 15 September 2005
High School Day is to help build links among students from Grade 9 to 12. A fantastic spread of food was provided by High School students for a potluck lunch. There were many fun games outside for all student teams to participate in.
