Grade 9 students spent the 5 day week at the Ba Be National Park which is 6 hours drive north west of Hanoi. Ba Be is the home to many minority cultures and Vietnams largest freshwater lake.
The focus of this field trip was to participate in Community Service activities and to explore aspects of the environment.
Activities accomplished included the following:
Rice Planting
Hiking – exploring rainforest habitats
Lake tour – exploring geographical aspects along with local flora and fauna
Tree planting and gardening
Painting the Ba Be Elementary School
Coordinating art activities with Elementary students
Rubbish clean-up
Community soccer game- UNIS Vs Ba Be High School
Performance of minority dance and music
The trip was highly successful with students receiving a lot of exercise, fresh air, good food and heaps of fun.
The Ba Be Elementary School that UNIS made a connection with does not have water or sanitary facilities. The Grade 9 students discussed this at length and have decided to raise money (by operating the BBQ at the UNIS Spring Fair) to firstly have a water unit installed.
