The Grade 7 student’s field trip to live for two days and three nights with the White Thai people in the village of Ban Lac on the outskirts of Mai Chau, was a rewarding and educational experience for all students. The major focus activities were in the subjects of Humanities, Science, English and Art. Students also focused on the “Caring” Learner Profile in terms of caring for each other and caring for the White Thai and their environment. Students were involved in four “team building” games as well as a morning hike for which students decided to either take part in a easy hike or a more challenging hike. Students visited the local school and presented the head of school with a gift package from UNIS, followed by an hour of students from both schools participating in games and activities. After dinner, for three evening each homeroom provided student organised entertainment for the other two homerooms. After journal writing reflecting on the day’s events, students prepared themselves for bed and went to sleep under their mosquito net tents. In conclusion, each student took home with them their own thoughts and feelings of this new life experience.
