56 students and 7 teachers had an interesting and enjoyable experience in SAPA, an old French hill station, nestled among the Hoang Lien Son Mountains near the Chinese border.
After the overnight train trip in the “soft sleeper” we bussed our way through the fog and up the mountain to what would be our home for the next 3 days. We spent our time rotating through two activities; either taking down or rebuilding a dormitory which would be used by students who could not make the walk to school each day, or walking into the Tay ethnic village of Ban Ho where we stayed overnight to experience life with the locals. Lunch at the TOPAZ Eco Lodge allowed us to see first hand an example of “Ecotourism” which the students are studying about in Humanities.
