Trek to Mt Fansipan
27 - 30 April 2007

Recently, nine students and three teachers set out on UNIS’ first ever outdoor hiking expedition to climb Mt. Fansipan.  After a long train ride to Sapa Friday night, the group set out to Tram Ton to begin their climb. The heavy rain started soon after, ensuring wet and muddy conditions for the rest of the day. After a night of camping in the bamboo forests, we set out for the summit.  Fortunately, the rain had stopped and conditions were clearing.

We reached the peak of Mt. Fansipan late in the morning.  At 3,143 meters, it is the highest point in Indochina!  We then spent the next day and a half making our way back down the mountain, enjoying some amazing views as the clouds cleared and the enormity of the mountain came into view.  Congratulations to the whole group for all of their hard work: Amy Lau, Eliza Bailey, Rosie Turner, Tess Sheehan, Lucas Cornaro, Kathy Gromotka, Julia Hendra, JP Wanner, Josh Ring, Ms Sally Monteith, Mr Jonathan Cawkell, and Mr Clint Hamada.
