Puppet Extravaganza
Grade 4 Assembly, 10 November 2006
Grade 4 has just finished their puppet making project
in Art as part of the unit of inquiry “Cultural Signals”.
Each class studied a Vietnamese folktale, developed a character from
the story and then turned the character into a puppet with a movable
part.
The puppets were made on a structure of bamboo sticks. These were 1
metre high. 4W and 4M made their heads from paper mache, and 4T used
clay. The clay heads are very heavy! We painted the faces using an expression
the character may have used in the story. They are very expressive and
we are really proud of all our hard work.
Then In Ms Kate’s music class, we composed our own music to go
with the folktales. During the puppet show there was a video of us playing
the music and telling the story. The puppets will be displayed around
the school.
