DONXA
Co Loa, 10 March 2007

On Saturday 10th March a group of UNIS students and teachers went out to Co Loa, a village near the airport. Our first stop was the school where we sang ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ – and found out that the animal noises are different in Vietnamese, except for cats which still “miaow”. We all had to concentrate to try to remember the Vietnamese animal sounds! After that we made pig puppets to celebrate Year of the Pig. The students loved making the puppets and using the glitter glue. Finally, we did some animal counting, and again the students were totally engrossed. It was also a good opportunity for us to practise our counting in Vietnamese.

Then it was time to move on, and visit the nursery. We wanted to take them some money with which to make cupboards for the kitchen. These will be lockable, and help to keep the provisions fresh. There was a chance to cuddle some of the babies, who are gradually becoming less frightened by us suddenly appearing! We were also able to see the storage towers in use –it was satisfying for us to see things we’ve taken making a practical difference.

All in all we had a good visit, and we think the children did too.
