On Saturday 27th January a group from UNIS went to Co Loa to visit the school and Jane's Nursery. We took
VND 3,000,000 to give to the teachers at the school to pay for school meals for the students. We raised the money at the Christmas bazaar at UNIS in December, and still hope to raise more money to pay for more meals in the upcoming months.
After the presentation, Ha's son, Minh, played some well known children’s Vietnamese tunes on the keyboard which got the children clapping and singing along; and then it was Jack's turn to entertain with the trumpet. All of the Co Loa students were excited to see and hear a trumpet! They really enjoyed both musicians. After the music we all played a local children’s game about a rabbit. There were hand actions, and verbal instructions, which didn't always match. The trick was to make the right action for the right instruction and not be caught out. It was a good chance for us to learn some Vietnamese, and we all had fun! After a brief visit to see the newly renovated kitchen the children went outside to play soccer and other games.
Finally, it was time to say goodbye to the school and visit Jane's nursery. We took 2 plastic storage towers with us for them to keep their things in. The lady in charge is very organised, and was pleased to see the cupboards that we'd bought along for her. Next time we hope to take a cupboard for the kitchen, to keep milk formula and other foodstuffs in.
We all had a great day, and now have new projects that we want to work on, to help the babies and students at Co Loa. Please let us know if you'd like to help with these.
