MRISA SENIOR SPORTS AT SAIGON SOUTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL!
HCMC: November 10th to 13th,
2005
Grades 9-12 basketball and volleyball
Volleyball
The Senior Girls Volleyball team had a very successful
weekend at MRISA in Ho Chi Minh City. The hard work and effort on the
part of the girls during practice paid off with an exciting 2-0 win over
NISC in the final.
The girls started early in the morning against a weak SSIS team and had
no difficulty in beating them handily. The next game saw the girls pitted
against a strong NISC team and were defeated 2-0 in two very close games.
This loss put us in second place in our division and a matchup against
the winners of Division 2, ISHCMC. After losing a close first set the
girls stormed back with easy victories in the second and third sets.
This set up the final against NISC. With the crowd against them, the
girls executed the game plan perfectly thus claiming the championship.
A solid effort was put in by all players and thanks goes to all team
members for their committment and participation during the first ten
weeks of the season. Congratulations on a fine season girls! -
- Coach
Bethune
The Senior Boys Volleyball Team started the tournament
with a narrow loss to NISC, 22-25, 22-25. They then showed a lot of
character to win their next qualifier against the home team SSIS, 25-23,
25-12. In a tough semi-final our boys really focused and played their
best volleyball of the season to defeat ISHCMC, 25-20, 25-20, and advance
to the final against the returning champions ISPP. Unfortunately, for
the second year in a row, ISPP played more consistent volleyball to
defeat us 25-20, 25-14. I would like to thank the boys for their efforts
during the exchange - well done!
- Coach Dale
Basketball The
MRISA Senior Boys Basketball tournament at Saigon South International
School was very competitive.
All of the six schools that competed had
very closely matched teams which resulted in very competitive games.
Unfortunately, the UNIS team lost to the International School of Ho Chi
Minh City and Northridge International School before beating Saigon South’s
second team. Everyone played extremely hard and we just couldn’t
make the baskets we needed to down the stretch. The team is looking forward
to hosting our own tournament on the 3rd of December here at UNIS where
we will play some local schools.
- Coach Caleb
The Senior Girls Basketball Team had an excellent day at the MRISA
Sports Exchange in HCMC. Our girls played four basketball games
on the day and with only seven basketballers that meant a lot of
running.
The UNIS Girls ended up finishing in second place when they lost
to the team from Northridge International School of Cambodia
in the Basketball
Final.
The girls who represented UNIS played hard and played
well all day, they were:
Felice Bakker, Andrea Wingardh, Ha My Le Phan, Ngoc Pham, Ji Min Bae,
Mary Rugh and Jessica Penrose.
Congratulations to the team on a well deserved
second place finish!
