Elementary School Staff

Claire Febrey, Kindergarten
Claire has a Bachelor of Arts and PGCE in Early Childhood Education from Exeter University, England. After teaching for three years in the UK, she moved to The British School, Nepal in 1998 where she taught Pre-K. Claire then moved with her husband, Matt to the International School of Tanganyika in 2003. Here she taught Discovery, Pre-K and K children. During this posting, she also had two children of her own. Claire and her family moved to UNIS in 2006 and are pleased to be back in South-East Asia. Claire enjoys most outdoor activities and loves to travel with her family.

 

Clare Michelsen, Grade 4 English as an Additional Language
Clare has a BA in French, English and Linguistics from the University of Ulster, Belfast. She also holds a PGCE in language teaching, an IGCSE French Oral Examiners Certificate from the University of Cambridge, and is currently studying for a BeD in Special Needs Education, which she will complete in February 2008. She gained PYP experience during her years spent teaching in both Namibia and Belgium. She spent 12 years teaching French and EAL, as well as Grades 2 to 4, throughout Africa and Europe in both international and private schools before joining UNIS in August, 2007. She enjoys reading, traveling, walking and spending time with her family.

 

Clémence Barbier, Grades 4 and 5 French
Clémence is a chemical engineer who graduated from University in Lyon, France. She has more than twelve years’ teaching experience in France and in Asia, including Bombay in India and Vientiane in Laos, where she taught art, mathematics, physic and chemistry, as well as Middle and High School Coordinator positions in French schools. She has worked at UNIS since 2004, teaching Elementary, Middle and High School students. In her free time, she enjoys making perfume using the magnificent flora of Vietnam.

 

Daniel Lucardie
Daniel is a qualified Primary/Elementary teacher from Australia, with nineteen years of teaching experience. For the last six years, he has been teaching at the International School of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He enjoys teaching all areas of the curriculum and has a great belief in the philosophy of the Primary Years Programme. His passions in life are his wife and twenty month old son. Between chasing his son around the house and working at UNIS he likes to keep fit, travel and relax close to a surf beach.

David Caleb
David has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This is his first overseas posting, but he spent the majority of his childhood in Baguio City, Philippines where he attended Brent International School. David has taught Grades 4 to 7. David and his wife Kelly, who works in the ECC, have a one year old son.  In his spare time, he enjoys photography, coaching basketball, spending time with his family, travelling and playing sports.

Do Thi Thu Huong, Grade 1 Teacher Aide
Huong has a Bachelor Degree in English Language Teaching, including a one-year post graduate course. She worked part-time as an Assistant Teacher at Apollo Language Center for two and a half year, before taking up her second job as a teacher aide, a position she has filled for five years. She enjoys working at UNIS.

 

Elaine Mew, Grade 1 EAL
Elaine completed her Bachelor of Education specializing in Early Childhood Education at the University of Calgary in Canada. Since that time, she has worked with a variety of learners from young children up to adults in Canada, Japan and Vietnam. She came to Vietnam in 2003 as a Development Worker with a Canadian NGO where she was placed as an English teacher at a university in Hanoi.  After her two year placement, she worked for the NGO in the capacity of Academic Director where she was involved in teacher training at the post-secondary level. She began working at UNIS in August 2006. She also has a diploma in Recreation Management and a certificate in Volunteer Management. Her passions include volunteering, reading, travelling in a culturally sensitive manner and promoting peace and global justice.

 

Eleanora Jaranova, Discovery to Grade 2 Physical Education
Eleonora graduated from the Sport and Pedagogy Academy of Latvia as a Physical Education and Swimming teacher and holds a Master Degree in Sports Science. She started her career in 1987 as a swimming coach, during which she has coached the Latvian National Junior swim team and directed a swimming club’s team in Malta. Before commencing at UNIS in August 2006, Eleonora was responsible for Elementary PE teaching at the International School of Latvia and K-10 teaching at the International School of Helsinki, Finland. She also coaches the Hammerheads swim team. This is the first time in Asia for Eleonora and her family – partner Brian (also teaching PE at UNIS) and son Nils – and they enjoy all their new experiences here.

 

Elizabeth O’Neill, Discovery to Grade 1 Music
Liz has been an early elementary teacher for many years. She has worked the majority of her teaching life in government schools in Australia but, after a stint in Cornwall, UK, decided to continue teaching overseas, travelling with her husband and three teenage children. She has been a music specialist in international schools in Singapore and Prague; a Kindergarten and EAL teacher in Nanjing, China, and is now very happy to be working as a music specialist in the ECC at UNIS Hanoi. She loves the opportunities offered to herself, her family and all the children in such a diverse and happy learning environment.

 

Georgina Haslemore, Kindergarten
Gina gained a Bachelor of Teaching degree in Early Childhood Education from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and a Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching from the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba, Australia. Gina has held a variety of teaching positions in early childhood education, elementary education, music specialization and administration. She taught in Australia for many years before heading overseas to take up a position in another International School in Hanoi. This is her sixth year as a UNIS team member.

Gisela Dale, Discovery
Gisela has a Bachelor in both Montessori and Primary Education from the Pedagogical Academy in the Netherlands. Individual teaching and Special Education was her focus for four years in the Netherlands. She joined UNIS Hanoi in 2003 after previously teaching ECC and Primary school children in Thailand, Bhutan and Cambodia.  Gisela likes Dance, Music, travelling and playing sport. She is married to Jarrod Dale and they now have two little children: Braelyn and Ameya.

 

Gun-Marie Larsson, Swedish
Gun-Marie has an MA in Swedish and English from Gothenburg University. She taught across ages in Sweden at various schools, including the Teachers’ Training College in Gothenburg. She is very interested in film and has hosted lectures for teachers about how to work with film in the classroom. She has written course books in Swedish and English for students at upper secondary school. In her spare time she loves traveling, reading, watching films and meeting new people. This is her first position overseas and she finds it very exciting.

 

Heather Westwood, Grade 5
Heather Westwood completed her Bachelor of Education and Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (TESOL) from the University of Tasmania, Australia. She initially taught Physical Education for a number of years, and then worked with overseas students at the university level, as well as teaching English to migrants and refugees before moving into the primary classroom. For the past 10 years Heather has worked in IBPYP schools in Thailand and the Bahamas, and along with her husband Pete and her two children, Oliver and Mikaela, she is enthusiastic and happy to be at UNIS. As a PYP Trainer she has also trained, evaluated, consulted and worked with teachers, schools and curriculum development issues both locally and internationally.

Heidi Kay, Grade 5 English as an Additional Language
Heidi is originally from Chicago, IL, USA but has been working overseas for the past six years. Heidi comes to UNIS from her last teaching assignment in Sandefjord, Norway.  Previously, she taught in the USA, Japan, China and Korea.  She holds a Bachelors degree in K-9 education and in Music.  When not teaching, Heidi loves to run, use her computer, hike, be near or in water, learn languages and travel.  Heidi has always wanted to live in Hanoi and was very excited to join UNIS in August 2007.

 

Jane Kilpatrick, Elementary School Counselor
Jane is a registered psychologist and also has a teaching degree. Jane has worked as an Educational Psychologist in various Australian elementary and high schools over the last 16 years. She also worked as a learning support teacher for two years. Jane enjoys working with students and their families to assist in overcoming social, academic and emotional difficulties. She is married with two children, Madeleine who is 14 years old and Callum who is 9 years old. Jane's interests include skiing, golf, hockey, singing and listening to music. Student Life Committee.

Joanna Moffett, Discovery to Kindergarten English as an Additional Language
Joanna has a Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Primary Education from Durham University in England and is also qualified to teach English as a Second Language. She has taught Special Needs and EAL in a variety of countries including England, Tanzania, Belgium and Turkey. She particularly enjoys teaching English to young learners. She has been teaching at UNIS since 2002. She is here with her husband, Paul Goegebeur, and their two children, Lucas who is in Grade 5 and Olivia who is in Grade 1.

 

John Cushing, Grade 2 English as an Additional Language
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Behavior and a Masters Degree in Teaching/Education from the University of San Francisco, USA. His previous classroom teaching experience includes Grades 2 to 5 as well as Language Arts Teacher trainer. He joined UNIS in August, 2007. He and his wife, Hong Anh, have twin daughters that have attended UNIS since Grade 1. Outside of family and teaching, he enjoys scuba diving, underwater photography, and yes… cooking. It is a joy and privilege to be part of the UNIS community.

Jude Slater: Grade 3 English as an Additional Language
Jude has a Diploma in Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Monash University in Melbourne. She has been teaching language for the past 25 years. She taught Japanese to Grade 12 and tertiary level to Australian students. Jude has also taught English to elementary, secondary and university students in Australia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Laos and Northern Cyprus. She also worked as a language consultant for the Catholic Education Office in Victoria, Australia providing support and professional development to language teachers. She has been involved in writing National Curriculum (Social Studies) and has contributed to the publication of a book ‘Ticket to Japan’. Jude loves all sorts of sports; golf, tennis, swimming, netball ten-pin bowling and ice-hockey (without the skates) and skiing.

 

Julia Hatch, Grade 1
Julia has been an international teacher for 20 years and has worked in Abu Dhabi (U.A.E.), Muscat (Oman), and, most recently, Dresden (Germany) before commencing at UNIS in August, 2007.  She has worked with Early Years through to Grade 3.  Julia views herself as a Life Long Learner and, as such, she enjoys the challenges that living and working in an international community bring.  Julia is excited about being in Viet Nam and at UNIS, and is looking forward to discovering the Far East.  In her spare time Julia enjoys jogging (very slowly), Line Dancing (no laughing please!), travelling, spending time with family and friends, and now, watching cable television - which she’s never had before!

 

Julie Porter, Elementary Learning Support
Julie has a Bachelor of Education from the UK and has specialised in Early Childhood Education. She also has a Diploma in Special Needs and was a SENCO in a large primary school for two years. After teaching for eight years in the UK, she moved overseas to work at the British International School in Jakarta, Indonesia.  She then took a break to take care of her own children and since then has taught in other International Schools in Japan, The Netherlands and Malaysia. Julie moved to UNIS in August 2007 and is here with her husband, Dave, and their two daughters. She enjoys most outdoor activities, reading, yoga and loves to travel with her family.

Kate Brown, Grades 2 to 5 Music
Kate has a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from Christchurch College of Education, New Zealand and a Masters of Education (Music), from Monash University, Australia. She has held a variety of generalist teaching, specialist music teaching, and management positions throughout Elementary and Middle Schools in New Zealand, as well as the International School of Lae, Papua New Guinea. She and her husband Gray have three children in New Zealand.

 

Katherine Baird, Grade 5
Katherine has taught in a variety of classroom settings ranging from K-7, implementing the PYP and the MYP. She graduated from the University of South Australia awarded with a Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/Primary). Katherine's love for teaching is inspired by her mother. Katherine enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends and she has a passion for cooking.

 

Kelly Caleb:  Pre-Kindergarten
Kelly has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria,
British Columbia, Canada.  This is the fourth year at UNIS for Kelly and her husband, David.  She has taught Discovery, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten at UNIS.  In her spare time, Kelly enjoys travelling, swimming and spending time with her family. Kelly and David have one son, Alexander, who is one year old.

 

Le Hoang Linh, English as an Additional Language Teacher Aide
Linh graduated from the Moscow Teacher’s Training University in 2002. She is a qualified linguist teacher. After graduation, she moved to Beijing for Chinese language training. Linh commenced working at UNIS for four months in 2003 as a Pre-K teacher aide. She was then appointed EAL Teacher Aide in 2005. UNIS is her first work place. She’s very satisfied at UNIS and loves her job.

Le Thuy An, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Aide
An graduated from the Hanoi National University in 1994. She joined UNIS in 1997 and worked as a Receptionist for one and a half years. She was appointed to a Teacher Aide position in the Early Childhood Centre in 1999. She has two children, one son and one daughter. She likes reading, cooking, and traveling.

 

Lester Cavestany, Grade 4
Lester completed a postgraduate Teacher Certificate Program at De La Salle University-College of Education after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1998. He taught for three years in Manila before accepting his first overseas posting as the Grade 4 teacher at the Singapore International School-Jakarta in 2002. He then transferred to the Australian International School and taught there for four years in Grade 4. He spends his free-time surfing the net, reading books, updating his weblog, playing sports, and hanging out with his friends. Outside UNIS, he is involved with Education Volunteers Educating Filipinos, a nonprofit organisation that he founded with his friends in 2001. His mission in life is simple: to take the road less travelled and to make a difference.

Ly Bich Hang, Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Hang graduated from Hanoi University for Teachers of Foreign Languages. Before coming to UNIS, she worked at Daystar International School, a Montessori based pre- school in Hanoi. She has been working at UNIS since 1996.

 

Maija Ruokanen, Grade 2
Originally from the Arctic Circle in Finland, Maija studied an International Master of Education Programme in the University of Oulu, Finland specializing in multicultural education. Her Master’s thesis concentrated on the phenomenon of Third Culture Persons in international teaching. She also has qualifications to teach French, ESL and Finnish as Foreign Languages at primary school level. During her studies, she lived in Australia and France.  Having taught in two IBO schools in Finland, International School of Helsinki and Oulu International School, she wanted to swap snow and a cold climate for the warmth of Vietnam and is now enjoying her fourth year of teaching at UNIS.

 

Marije Van Kempen, Dutch
Marije has worked as a teacher in The Netherlands for nine years, and as a counselor and dyslexia-expert for two years in special education. This is her second year in Vietnam and she is delighted to be the director and teacher of the Dutch School De Blauwe Lotus located at UNIS. Previously Marije worked in Ghana and Russia. Marije's interests include ballet, travelling, kite surfing, photography and collecting Lonely Planet travel books.

 

Matt Febrey, Physical Education & Health
Matt has a Bachelor of Education, Honors Degree in Physical Education from Exeter University, England. He joined UNIS in 2006 after previously teaching in Tanzania, Nepal and England. Matt enjoys the challenges that living and working in an international community brings and is interested in a wide variety of sports and activities. Matt is married to Claire who teaches in the Early Childhood Centre and they have two children.

 

Mel Hamada, Grades 4 and 5 Physical Education
Mel Hamada has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Canberra and a Masters of Science (Education) from Macquarie University in Australia. Mel commenced her time at UNIS in 2006, having had experience teaching PE, health and Science in Tanzania, UK, Japan and Australia. Mel is a keen netballer, runner, cyclist and has dabbled in triathlons. Mel’s husband Clint teachers Mathematics in the Middle School. They have two children, their toddler son Oscar and a new addition of their daughter, Ophelia.

 

Michelle Matias, Information Technology
Michelle graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines with a degree in Behavioral Science.  She took her postgraduate Teaching Certificate in 1999 and has enjoyed teaching since then.  She also holds a Teaching License in Business and Technology. Prior to joining UNIS in August, 2007, Michelle has taught in Early Years and ICT at the International School Manila, Bahrain Bayan School, and Medan International School in Indonesia. Her interests include dancing, reading, hiking, surfing the Net, and travelling.

Michelle Wise, Grades 2 to 5 Art
Michelle joined UNIS this in August, 2007. She has extensive experience teaching art in elementary, middle and high schools. Most recently, Michelle taught art from K-12 in an international school in Cambodia. She has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, from University of Canterbury, New Zealand and a masters in teaching from University of Sydney, Australia. She has come to Hanoi with her husband, who works as a conservation biologist, and her two-year old son.

 
Nguyen Nga Mi, Grade 3 Teacher Aide
Mi graduated from the Hanoi University of Education with a Literature speciality and Hanoi University of Foreign Languages in 2006. Mi enjoy reading, writing stories (some of them were published in newspapers for teens) and listening (it is so useful for writing). She loves children and cannot imagine how she could live without them. She joined UNIS in December, 2006.
 

Nguyen Hong Lam,  Grade 2 Teacher Aide
Lam has a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education from the National College of Early Childhood Education and a degree in English from the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. She joined UNIS in December, 2006. She enjoys working with students, especially the young children. Music and shopping are her  favourite pastimes.

 

Nguyen Thi Noi, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Noi graduated from Hanoi's Teacher Training College in 1989. She has been working in the Early Childhood Centre of UNIS since 1997. She is married and has two children.

 

Nguyen Phuong Thao, Grade 5 Teacher Aide
Thao graduated from the International Language College, majoring in English. Before commencing at UNIS in December, 2006, she worked for Hanoi International School as a Teaching Assistant, and several companies. She finds it is very interesting to work with children, especially small children. Thao loves travelling, reading and story writing.

 

Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Information Technology Lab Assistant
Nhan joined UNIS in August, 2007. She graduated from the Hanoi University of Technology in a Joint Training Program with Genetic Singapore and was awarded a Higher Diploma Degree majoring in computer software. She enjoys working with computers and very much loves teaching children.

 

Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Grades 1 to 5 EAL Teacher Aide
Hang gained a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Early childhood Education in 1996. She then worked as a teacher at a Vietnamese Pre-school for one year and at Rainbow School for three years from 1998 to 2001. She joined UNIS in 2001, where she worked as a grade-level teacher aide, before being appointed to her current position. She really enjoys the company of her twin girls.

 

Nguyen Thu Hang (Hannah), Grade 4 Teacher Aide
Hannah obtained a Bachelor of Primary Education in 2003 and a Bachelor of Language in English two years later. She taught Vietnamese to Grades 1-2 over three years at another International School before joining UNIS. She loves helping children with their studies and enjoys seeing their progress. Hannah likes travelling and discovering new things in life.

Huyen has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the Hanoi National University. Prior to commencing at UNIS in August, 2004, Huyen worked as a Vietnamese teacher in the Elementary and Middle Schools at the Hanoi International School.

Ninh Thi Bich Vu, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Vu completed her Bachelor of Arts majoring in teaching Russian and English at the Hanoi Foreign Language Teaching Training College She has worked in International schools for eight years, joining UNIS in 2004 as a Teacher Aide in the Early Childhood Center. She loves children and is very happy with her job, as it suits her easy going and sunny nature. She has a 16-year old son.

 

Panni Varadi, Discovery to Grade 1 Art and Pre-K EAL
Panni has a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature and Education from the University (ELTE) of Budapest, Hungary. She also studied Museum Education in Fine Arts in Hungary. She taught Art and ESL at the American International School of Budapest for six years, and ran a small art school there working with local artists, before coming to Hanoi. She was very excited to move to Asia. Some of her interests include experimenting with mixed media and singing.

 

Peter Goverde, Kindergarten to Grade 5 Physical Education
Peter commenced at UNIS in August, 2007 and is very much enjoying his time so far. He has been a Physical Education techer for over 30 years, obtaining his teaching degree from the University of Toronto, Canada. He worked in Austria for two years and in Sweden for 28 years. His favourite sport is tennis.

 

Pete Westwood, Elementary Curriculum/PYP Coordinator
Pete has a Bachelor of Education, a Graduate Diploma of Education Studies (TESOL), and a Master of Education Studies, all from the University of Tasmania. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral programme at Bath University. He has been teaching for around 18 years; six in a leading private school in Australia, the last 12 internationally. He worked in Thailand for seven years and spent two years in The Bahamas before coming to Vietnam. Pete has held similar roles in his past two schools. He is a PYP trainer and has conducted workshops in many countries at different levels and on four continents. He is here with his spouse, Heather, who teaches Grade 5 as well as a son, Oliver, in Grade 11 and a daughter, Mikaela who is in Grade 9.

Rhona Taylor, Grade 3
Rhona graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts and went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Durham, UK in 1991. After teaching at a large multicultural school in the heart of the Bronte country, she accepted her first international posting as a Grade 4/5 teacher at the British Overseas School in Karachi, Pakistan. Since then Rhona has taught in the UK and taken a sabbatical to explore the word of business. She has managed an adventure department for a travel agency in Vietnam specializing in cycle tours. Recently she parked her bike and returned to teaching, commencing at UNIS in August, 2006. Now she can be found having great fun with her Grade 3 class.

 

Rob Reed, Pre-Kindergarten and Early Childhood Centre Coordinator
Rob Reed has a Bachelor of Teaching, Early Childhood Education from the University of South Australia. Rob has been employed in a variety of settings within Australia as Teacher, Director of Kindergartens and Special Projects Officer for Early Childhood Services. His International experience includes two years at Jerudong International School in Brunei and five years at Vienna International School in Austria as Coordinator of Preschool and Deputy Head. Rob is a Primary Years Program Trainer. He began teaching at UNIS in August 2004. These settings have enabled him to gain invaluable experience and to successfully meet many challenges.

Russ Reardon, English as an Additional Language Coordinator
Russ joined UNIS in August, 2007. Previously, he taught for 19 years in the Northern Territory in Australia and for two years in Viet Nam. During the last four years in Australia, he was a Reading Recovery teacher, for students who had not acquired reading skills, as well as an EAL teacher. Prior to teaching, he worked in Papua New Guinea in Shipping and Customs for six and a half years. He plays a little bit of tennis and badminton and is a keen swimmer.  He enjoys reading, listening to the classics and ethnic music, and travelling.

 

Sandra Dodd, Grade 3
Sandra has a Bachelor of Education from Charles Darwin University in Australia. She has taught throughout the Primary Years and was an Assistant Principal in a large outback school before taking the opportunity to move overseas with her daughters. She first travelled to Canada, teaching in Vancouver and then took up a teaching position at the British International School in Istanbul. She worked there for four years combining her duties as a Grade 4 and 5 teacher and Campus Coordinator. She moved to Vietnam two years ago. Her two daughters now live in Australia.

Sarah Dempsey, Pre-Kindergarten
Sarah has a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education from Massey University, New Zealand. Sarah has spent most of her career working in New Zealand schools teaching younger children. Sarah joined UNIS Hanoi in August 2006 after spending a year in Korea teaching and helping to set up an English Language school. Sarah is in Vietnam with her husband and two daughters.

 

Simon Norton, Grade 4
Simon has taught in primary education for 15 years. He gained his Bachelor of Education Degree (Hons) in Primary Education and PE from Carnegie College, Leeds in 1992. Simon previously taught in England, The Bahamas, Oman and Austria. He is joined at UNIS by his wife, Lucy and his three beautiful children: Toby, Sam and baby Harriet. Simon enjoys most sports including rugby, football and skiing. He also writes “pub” quizzes and loves to cook.

Sophie Cibré: Grades 4 and 5 French
Sophie completed a double BA in Modern Literature and French as a Foreign Language, a PG Dip and a Masters in Comparative Literature and Linguistics with the University of Nice, Sophia Antipolis, France. She has been teaching French for over fifteen years from high school to university levels in France, Canada and New Zealand. At UNIS, Sophie teaches French in Elementary, Middle and High schools. She likes reading, skiing, hiking, running, biking and has been learning to surf in the cold New Zealand waters!

 

Sue Elliot, Pre-Kindergarten
Sue has a Bachelor of Education specialising in Early Childhood Education from the University of Newcastle in Australia. She has taught children in Australian schools from Pre School to Grade 2 for 20 years.  Sue was Owner, Director and Teacher of her own Pre-School in Australia for 6 years. 2007 is her second year at UNIS.

 

Sue Woodbury, Kindergarten
Sue gained a Bachelor of Education at Otago University, New Zealand and a Diploma in Primary School Teaching from Dunedin College of Education, New Zealand. She has held a variety of teaching positions in early childhood, elementary education and has had teaching experience within middle and high schools. She taught in New Zealand for five years before heading overseas to teach in England, Australia, South Korea and Vietnam. This is her fourth year at UNIS where she previously taught Grade 4 and Early Childhood Centre Physical Education.

 

Susan Hoy, Grade 2
Susan holds a Bachelor of Education from the National University of Ireland. She taught a variety of grade levels in Ireland before moving overseas to work with an Irish NGO in Sudan. She continued her overseas career teaching in international schools in Mozambique and Uganda. Now married with three children, Susan loves to travel and meet new people and is an avid reader in her spare time. This is her second year teaching Grade 2 at UNIS.

 

Tran Kim Dung, Discovery to Grade 1 Vietnamese
Tran Kim Dung holds a Bachelor of Teaching ESL from Hanoi Teachers’ Training College and a BA from the National University of Foreign Studies. She taught ESL in a Vietnamese school for several years before joining UNIS. She enjoys teaching Vietnamese language and culture to expatriate children. She fills her free time with playing with her daughters, listening to music and reading books.

Tran Thi Bao Ngoc, ECERP Coordinator
Ngoc is a graduate from Hanoi University for Teachers of Foreign Languages. She joined UNIS in 2000 where she worked as a Grade 1 and 2 Teacher Aide. In May 2006, she was appointed ECERP Coordinator. She enjoys working with both UNIS teachers and teachers from Vietnamese kindergartens in Hanoi. Ngoc loves reading, traveling, cooking and yoga in her free time.

 

Tran Thi Hong Ha, Grade 1 Teacher Aide
Ha obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Hanoi University of Foreign Languages Teacher Training in teaching Russian in 1991 and a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies from the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in 1995. Before joining UNIS in 1995, she worked as an administrator in the LG Representative office in Hanoi for three years.

 

Tran Thi Thu, Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Thu has a Bachelor of Teaching with a major in English as an Additional Language. She joined UNIS in 2000 and since that time has enjoyed working with children in the Early Childhood Centre. She also enjoys teaching arts and crafts to children across the Elementary and Middle schools for After School Activiites and UNIS Summer Camp. Her main interests are reading, art and traveling.

 

Tran Thi Xuan, Grades 2 to 5 Vietnamese
Xuan gained a Teacher’s Degree in teaching English as an Additional Language from Ha Bac Teachers’ Training College in 1994. She also worked as a teacher in the English Department at the same college for two years before moving to Hanoi. In 1996, Xuan joined UNIS as a Teacher Aide. She has worked with children at many different grade levels at UNIS Elementary School for nine years and has been teaching Vietnamese and culture since 2005. In her spare time, Xuan enjoys reading and listening to music

 

Tran Thi Thuy Hang, Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Hang obtained a Teaching Certificate from the Hanoi National University College of Foreign Languages in 1999. Having worked in Hoguom Tourism Company for three years, she then taught EAL to children in Vietnamese schools. She was happy to be offered this position at UNIS in 2003 and loves working in the Early Childhood Centre. In her spare time she enjoys shopping and listening to music.

 

Le Thi Thanh Thuy, Music- Art Teacher Aide
Thuy has a Bachelor of Arts. She has been a staff member at UNIS since 1996, as the Receptionist for one year then moving to the Head of School’s Secretary position in 1997. She likes working in an educational environment. Before entering UNIS, she worked part time as a Resident Coordinator for an Italian NGO which helps street children in Vietnam with their study and vocational training. She then worked as a teacher aide at the Daystar International School for one year. She has two sons and likes listening to music and spending time with her family on the weekends.
