Library Media Centre

The UNIS Hanoi Library is a comfortable place for the community to read, learn and collaborate.  UNIS students, faculty, staff and families are encouraged to visit the library where they may access our multi language collection of 44,000 print and digital resources for their information and recreational needs.

UNIS Hanoi community members can access our Library Catalogue and online resources, including  electronics books and magazines and academic subscription databases. Specialized wikis present information on research and referencing, hot pick book suggestions, and information on library services. The school community member can explore the Library Portal using the UNIS Hanoi provided username and password. As only school computers can access the UNIS Hanoi wireless network on campus, the library has desktop computers available to library visitors.

The UNIS Hanoi Library and its staff strive to:

  • Provide the widest possible range of timely curricular and recreational materials (both print and electronic) to all members of the UNIS Hanoi academic community.
  • Ensure students learn and practice information fluency skills related to the use of these resources.
  • Inspire critical appreciation of information and literature in order to promote successful, independent, lifelong learning.

Library Curriculum

UNIS Hanoi students study information literacy and library skills across the curriculum from Discovery through Grade 12. Elementary students visit the library weekly for borrowing and lessons. Middle & High School students are welcome in the Library before school, lunch time, X block, after school and during leisure or study time, and they participate in information fluency lessons and practices integrated into their subject classes.

Library Hours

Monday to Friday: 07:30 to 17:00

The Library is closed during school holidays and occasionally has early closure due to special events.

Library Policies

The Library Media Centre is used for many purposes by both individuals and classes. Therefore, the UNIS Hanoi code of conduct regarding behavior, academic honesty and acceptable use of technology will be observed by all community members.

Borrowing:

Any member of the UNIS Hanoi community may borrow resources. The loan period is two weeks for each item.  Students needing resources for extended amounts due to class requirements may receive permission to keep the materials for longer.

Discovery: One book
K1: One book
K2–G02: Two books
Grades 3-5: Three Books
Middle & High School: Ten books, or as needed
Parents: Six books (under their own UNIS Hanoi INSIS identification number).

Overdue Notices and Lost/Damaged Materials:

In the ES, students receive paper notices and/or emails directly to the parent or guardian via the ISIS entered email address; in Middle & High School overdue notices are sent via the student’s UNIS Hanoi email account. No overdue fees are charged, but lost, damaged and unreturned items will be billed at cost of the item plus shipping and processing charges.

Library Volunteers

Volunteers are welcome at the UNIS Hanoi Library. We especially need parent partners to help us with our World Language collection; we also appreciate parents who volunteer to help out with special programming, bulletin boards, shelving, and more!

Parents and students interested in volunteering should contact the library staff.
