Welcome to Upper Elementary

In our Upper Elementary School, students in Grade 2 (7 years old) to Grade 5 (10 years old), build on the foundational experiences and skills taught at our school’s Lower Elementary School. We strive to continue to nurture your child’s natural curiosity and desire to make sense of the world around them. We do this through a variety of ways, but at the core, we believe in providing an environment and authentic learning experiences that aim to inspire and empower each student to fully engage in their own learning.

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a concept-based, inquiry-driven framework where students are involved in their learning at deep levels. Students are given opportunities to explore, analyse, question, think, problem solve, and create meaning. We deliver our curriculum in a transdisciplinary and interconnected way, helping students to see relationships between what they are learning and the world around them.

Through the PYP, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our United Nations Principles, we encourage students to develop interests and follow passions. We believe the more a student has choice and is engaged at deep levels in his or her learning, the more they learn and the more they enjoy the process.

Another important aspect of our programme lies in our attention to developing the social emotional aspects of our students. We give them the skills and practice to become caring communicators and collaborators. It is important that each student feels like a valued member of our school community and feels capable of making positive contributions to their friends, their classes and to the school. In addition, we want students to see themselves as agents of change. We encourage students to identify opportunities for improvement in themselves and our school, and then to take meaningful action.

As part of a Discovery to Grade 12 International Baccalaureate school, you can be confident that from the start your child will enjoy continuity for success throughout their schooling at UNIS Hanoi and beyond.
